    Default CSL 2012--Week 13

Result of the Friday July 27, 2012 CSL game between
TFC Academy and Windsor Stars played at Downsview
Park in North York at 8:00pm.

19 min...TFCA Sergio Camargo GOAL...Camargo and TFCA Joshua
Janneiere have a shot each on the edge of the WS box blocked
by defenders. TFCA Omari Morris gets the second rebound
on the far right and makes 20 cross back into box where
Leaping Camargo heads 8 yarder down middle into center
of net just under the bar.

27 min...WS Joel Kabula GOAL...WS Christian Mayorga on rush
on left sends cross from 25 yards that bounces through box
for Kabula to kick in 8 yarder from right.

41 min...WS Michael Pio GOAL...WS David Kadoic takes
cornerkick from the right that's knocked down in box and Pio
shoots low 10 yard shot into center of net past goalie
    Angelo Cavalluzzo.

89 min...WS Joel Kabula blocks shot at 12 yards on right with
studs up injurying shot-taker TFCA Joshua Janniere when he
followed through. Referee Yusri Rudolph called for a
    Penalty kick.

90 min...TFCA Sergio Camargo GOAL...Camargo blasts his Penalty
kick into right side of net halfway up just out of reach of
    goalie Anthony Santilli.

    93 min...game ends.

    Final Score:.....TFC Academy.....2....Windsor Stars.....2.....

Attendance climbed to about 100 by the end of the game on this
hot night with the setting sun mostly behind clouds until
it was dark. There was no rainfall despite the forecast.

Conditions were sparton with some portable stands that held
maybe sixty people. There were no bathrooms or port-a-potties
in sight and with the dressing rooms about 100 yards away, some
of the TFCA reserves warming up at halftime just wizzed against
the fence. This game was held on Field #1 which was covered
    by field turf.

The game was full of breakout counterattacks but was not particularily
rough. No Yellow cards were given out tonight. The Stars bench
and players were incensed by the awarding of the Penalty kick at the
end. Goalie Anthony Santilli said after that game the ball was between
the defender's legs so Janiiere was going to connect with him when he
    made contact with the ball.

Many potential good chances were snuffed out by alert, aggressive
goaltending. Best non-scoriing chances that did take place were at 45
minutes when WS John Swiastyn took a low 18 yard shot that the diving
goalie pushed away. 61 minutes had WS Christian Mayorgo rush on the
left and take a low 15 yard shot that was saved by the diving goalie.
A minute later TFCA Roberto Galle take a 25 yard cross that TFCA Mario
Orestano gets a foot up to tip the ball at 10 yards that the flying goalie
pushed wide left of the net. The resulting cornerkick from the left had
TFCA Nikola Paunic take a shot from 15 yards on the right hit the right
post and TFCA Mario Kovacevic's rebound was blocked. 65 minutes had
TFCA Ryan Sciaccitano cornerkick from the left had Paunic take a 12 yard
shot that the goalie pushed wide right of the post.

Sergio Camargo could not properly connect on a bicycle kick from 8 yards
on the right at 37 minutes. One official on the TFCA bench called his
    try a 'tricycle kick'.

This game featured five players on TFCA that played as subs in the
Toronto FC exhibition game against Liverpool FC last Saturday. Defenders
Roberto Galle and Tyler Pasher, midfielders Sergio Camargo and Ryan
Sciaccitano, and forward Joshua Janniere were all starters in tonight's
game. I asked Janniere after the game about the uniforms worn in that
game. They got to keep them. The Uniforms had their names on the
back of their shoulders whereas the Academy uniforms just have numbers.
In the Liverpool game, because Tyler Pasher entered the game at 27 minutes
and stayed on when the roster was flipped in the second half, he played
longer than any other player on either team.

I was looking through the MLS Guide of the Toronto vs Houston game earlier
in the day and read the short bio on Nicholas Lindsay. It said he was
sitting out this season because of having surgury last year. I was surprised
to see him warming up at halftime and coming in at the start of the half
as a forward. He said it was part of his recovery. After the game he
answered that he hadn't reaggravated his injury in tonight's game. He had
some shots and a header as a forward tonight. Probably the MLS guide
was correct as it is written regarding MLS level play.

I asked TFCA director Thomas Rongen after the game about the team formation.
At the beginning of the season everything was going to be 4-3-3 but new
MLS coach Paul Mariner was moved up after the team's 1-9-0 record and has
turned the team around with a 'simple' 4-4-2 setup. Tonight's game looked
somewhat in between. Rongen said they were trying the flexibility of both
and even 4-5-1 so the players would learn each system for MLS play and
if they go off to college.

This is the only game of the weekend for both teams. TFC Academy
record climbs to 8-3-2 and they climb into first place by one
point at least until other games on Sunday. Windsor climbs to sixth
    place with a 6-5-2 record.

I'm pretty sure it's fine, but my page says it's muted in almost every country (including Canada) but it's clearly fine here in Canada, probably fix itself anyway (1979 is not a anti youtube song). Tell me if it's muted...

I can't play it. "This video contains content from EMI, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds."

I think The Beatles were on EMI. '1979' the Smashing Pumpkins song?

I guess EMI gets their old catalogue too!

Result of the Sunday July 29, 2012 CSL game between
Brampton City United and Toronto Croatia played at
Victoria Park in Brampton at 3:00pm.

21 min...TC Tihomir Maletic GOAL...BCU Andrew Da Silva
at 35 yards on right had TC Hayden Fitzwilliams
displace him off ball on a check and roll the ball
forward for charging TC Marin Vucemilovic Grgic who gets
to ball and rolls 15 yard cross to center of box where
Maletic on right at 8 yards in front of sliding BCU
defender Mirko Medic backheels flick ball to left
corner of net leaving BCU goalie Euloge Awitor Kodzo
flat footed in center of net.

52 min...BCU Red card...defender Mirko Medic earns his
second Yellow card of the game from referee David
Barrie for knocking down TC Hayden Fitzwilliams as he
ran even with him up the middle and knocked him over
    at BCU 30 yard line.

    Final Score:....Brampton City United......0.....
    Toronto Croatia....1......

Attendance was about 250 on this hot and sunny
afternoon. The crowd had about 100 Croatia
fans and the rest rooting for the home team.

Antonio Ilic earned the shutout for Toronto
Croatia and had to make a few key saves.

The game was threatening to get out of hand just
minutes after the goal. BCU Mirko Medic earned
his first Yellow card at 23 minutes when he had
a step on a charging TC Tihomir Maletic but
suddenly stopped at the center line rather than
continue to chase the loose ball and Maletic
ran into him. It was equivalent to a hockey
bodycheck and Maletic was flattened and injured
but eventually returned to play. These were
two stars competing because Medic has won
defender of the year during his time with
Serbian White Eagles and Maletic has been
named league MVP and scoring leader. After the
restart BCU soon drew another Yellow card
when Denny Velastegui elbowed Marin Vucemilovic
Grgic at the center line but on the other
side of the field. (that actually made the third
Yellow card of the game--all to BCU defenders).
It was a shot to the jaw cutting Grgic open.
Referee David Barrie then stopped the game to talk
to both benches as a pushing match was breaking out.
The game settled down and TC earned two Yellow
cards in the second half and BCU earned the Red.
Tossing Medic wasn't the end of him as he took his
place in the front row of the stands among
BCU fans and heckled the calls. When the referee
noticed this at 63 minutes, he stopped the game
and insisted that Mirko leave the grounds.
(dressing rooms are attached to the hockey arena
just outside the exit of the stadium. This brought
back memories for me of when Toronto Croatia
player/coach (and still head coach today) Velimir
Crljan after being ejected from a game as a player,
coming to the bench and putting on a jacket and
then barking out orders in his role as 'coach'
until being forced out of the stadium.

BCU chances were limited in the second half playing
a man short but they had a few. Best non-scoring
chances were at 36 minutes when Maletic took a
cornerkick from the right that had leaping TC Josip
Keran head the ball from 10 yards just missing the
top right corner of the net. First half injury
time had Medic make a sliding tackle to poke the
ball away from TC Boris Tomac who'd recovered
the BCU goalie's knock down of a cross and was
ready to roll in a shot. Medic was injured on
that effort. 46 minutes had BCU David Guzman's
cornerkick from the left have a defender knock
down the ball at 6 yards and BCU Milos Scepanovic
roll an 8 yarder from the left that the goalie
smothered on the left post. 53 minutes had
TC Marin Vucemilovic Grgic blast a 28 yard shot
up the middle that clanged off the right post.
Another TC player blasted the 10 yard rebound
well over the net. 60 minutes had Grgic take
a low cross from 20 yards on the extreme right
over to the left post where Maletic and Tomac
had a 5 yard shot that the goalie saved and
smothered. (behind the line! was the
TC players/fans appeal). 85 minutes had
BCU Guzman take a cornerkick from the right
that Maletic headed down and started a fast
break. Maletic took a pass forward from
a teammate and charge up the middle and
round the goalie at 35 yards on a now 3 on
0 breakaway. He sent a 20 yard shot into
the outside left webbing of the net while
beind pursued by defenders and the goalie.
Injury time had Guzman chip a 22 yard freekick
up the middle just wide right of the post.

BCU's head coach Armando Costa is in the hospital
    and missed today's game.

Today's results vault Toronto Croatia back
into first place with an 8-1-3 record, one
point better than TFC Academy with a game
in hand. Brampton stays in 8th place with
a 5-4-3 record but were caught today by
    SC Waterloo winning tonight.

This game was recorded by Rogers Community
channel for broadcast at 8:00pm in the
Brampton area AND in Toronto too as there
was no Rogers crew taping the TFC Academy
vs Windsor Stars game on Friday night despite
what was listed in the television listings.
Rogers Toronto usually only show games played
    in Toronto.

The game didn't start until almost 3:30pm
because some earlier games had dragged
on too long. It made it tighter for me to
get cross town to see the York Region
Shooters vs Kingston FC game (which
    I'll post details of tomorrow).

I had a great time at the Brampton United v Toronto Croatia match yesterday, despite the home loss. Lots of entertaining back and forths between players and officials [and even the DJ at one point]. The level of play is good and I love the convenience of leaving home 10 minutes before kick-off and getting there on time. Sometimes getting to a TFC match ends up taking up half your day and easily over $100. There's still a couple of things I would change about the game-day experience, especially the DJ playing 8 seconds of music whenever the opportunity arises.

Two CSL officials were sitting behind me and were discussing the trash talk happening between players and the referees, which really stood out to me even before they mentioned it. With fans sitting so close to the action referees should really be clamping down on players swearing at each other and telling each other to 'shut the -- up' on more than a few occasions. There needs to be more respect between players and officials.

Some gardening at Victoria Park in Brampton is required. How about them trimming the bushes around the scoreboard. The board is almost
    unreadable in the jungle overgrowth.

Result of the Sunday July 29, 2012 CSL game between
York Region Shooters and Kingston FC played at
St Joan of Arc CHS in Vaughan at 6:30pm.

takes 30 yard freekick from right that has O'Connor
at 8 yards on right leap and flick header in crowd
of players in box into center of net just under bar.

    18 min...YRS Kadian Lecky GOAL...YRS Matthew O'Connor
pass from 35 yards on right is sent forward and Lecky
at 20 yards on right blasts shot over goalie Shane Lopez
and ball dips into center of net just under bar.

    21 min...YRS Desmond Humphrey GOAL...Humphrey in crowd
of players in middle blasts 20 yarder into middle of net.

    30 min...KFC Edgar Soglo GOAL...Soglo on a 3 on 1 break up
the middle has him roll in shot from 15 yards on left
past goalie Camilo Benzi and into right side of net.

    47 min (1st half)...YRS Alex Trujillo GOAL...YRS Desmond
Humphrey 30 yard freekick from left has charging Trujillo
fly to head in 8 yarder down middle just under bar.

57 min...YRS Desmond Humphrey GOAL...YRS Ryan Dummett finds
himself on 3 on 0 break on right after a deflection and
he races to end line and rolls ball to center for Humphrey
to roll 12 yard shot behind goalie and retreating sliding
    defender.

    87 min...KFC Vitaliy Sidorov GOAL...Sidorov receives short
pass in middle and blasts from 25 yards into center of net
    just under bar.

    89 min...YRS Tristan Jackman GOAL...YRS Desmond Humphrey
cross from right has YRS Nicolas Martinez in middle
have shot deflect up for Jackman to head 10 yarder into
    left side of net.

    Final Score:....York Region Shooters....6....
    ....Kingston FC...2...

Attendance was about 100 on this hot day but it had cooled
off by the time the game ended.

This was a wide open game with lots of rushes. Referee Jeff
Fearnall gave out only one Yellow card that I noticed.

Both teams emptied their benches in the second half and there
were a lot of offside calls in that time. YRS had about
double the scoring chances as KFC.

Best non scoring chances were at 13 minutes when KFC George
Anthony El-Asmar cuts in from the extreme left and his
12 yard shot hit the left post. 24 minutes had YRS Darryl
Gomez blast a low 22 yard roller up the middle and off the
left goalpost when he was crossed a pass from Desmond Humphrey.
41 minutes had El-Asmar send in a cornerkick from the right
that was knocked down and KFC Jordan Brooks kicked a 15 yarder
just over the bar. 60 minutes had KFC Vitaliy Sidorov cut
around a defender to get away a low 22 yarder from the left
that the diving goalie pushed wide left of the post. A minute
later YRS Humphrey took a quick freekick from 30 yards as KFC
were still setting up a wall and YRS Ryan Dummett ran in from
the right and took a 10 yard shot that the goalie flew
to the left to bat the ball away. 76 minutes had Humphrey's
cornerkick from the right have YRS Alex Trujillo head a
12 yarder down the middle that a defender cleared from 2 yards
on right post. 85 minutes had KFC Olivier Rieutord receive
a cross from the right from 25 yards and head a 12 yarder down
    the middle over the net.

Shooters move up to a tie for third place with TFC Academy.
Their record is 6-1-7 and it's so many ties earlier in the
year that holds them back. Kingston's record falls to
    3-10-1 for 14th place.
