Yes, very happy he stepped up and said what he did, instead of putting the Caps on a pedestal (btw, how did that 'hollywood north' drama work out with LA)?

Pretty sure we are talking about the same thing and at the risk of seeming wishy-washy I can honestly see both sides. This is why when it comes to these kind of judgements I kind of throw my hands in the air and say whatever. By some interpretations just the fact that Mattocks' knees/cleats were in the proximity of Emory's face could constitute a dangerous or reckless play. On the other hand, he seems to be going for the ball and therefore it would be hard to argue there was any intent. If Mattocks hadn't gone up as high, and had run into Emory's back or head with his chest and had still headed the ball on goal would a foul have been called then? I think it's more likely. So then the question to me is, does it matter how high you jump or what part of your body makes contact with the opposing player? Of course this is analysis ad naseum ...

The argument I hear from commentators often is 'He got the ball.' I have been led to believe though that this isn't the most relevant point. The question is whether or not he got/won the ball while fouling the other player. In this case I can see it going both ways and perhaps a no-call ends up being the best solution.

You have to remember that making contact with another player is not necessarily a foul. In cases where a ball is being fought for, both players have a right to the ball and there can be plenty of incidental contact and no foul called.

The fact that Emory didn't jump is also a huge factor, he's essentially forfeiting his right to challenge for the ball and therefore should get the f*ck out of the way - it could be argued that Emory was undercutting Mattocks - or be called for a foul himself.

Yes can't disagree with that. Not sure where the ball was in regards to Emory as it is hard to see. If it was on the other side of him from Mattocks there could be more reason for a foul but if it's between them it becomes much more 50-50.

I still think Kocic was the most culpable on the play. But i digress....we won 3-2! TFC is without a doubt the top club team in Canada.

Rule #1. Keeper comes out for the ball, keeper MUST get to and clear the ball.

Someone raised the point about Lee Godfrey preaching from the Canadian temple in regards Numbers of Cnds on each squad. You can tell that this issue is a bone of contention and discussion amongst broadcasters.

Predictably, when he raised that, you could hear the cries of "Homer" from whitecaps internet circles. And clearly, the national networks (especially TSN with its history) are very sensitive to this. Did anyone note the pause of silence from the broadcast crew of Wileman and deVos following that point? None of the various broadcasters (including NT member DeVos and Forrest) even want to go there. But, from their background, that is a point that has to be their mind and they must have an opinion. But in fear of getting ripped, and in the interest of neutrality, they don't bring it up.

So its Godfrey, who is most associated with TFC, who brings it up. I suspect that this was decided and planned in advance in meetings prior to the broadcast.

Too bad, because if the situations were reversed, and it was TFC with zilch in Can Con, i am sure that we would hear about it more often. why? because that's just they way things are.

Horrible to lose on the last freaking play of the game and to lose on a goal by a former Cap just like playing the Revs. Sigh. Hopefully all former Caps in MLS have all their payback plays out of their system now.

As to the second goal by Mattocks. How does a 5'10" player get his head higher than a 6'4" keeper with his hands? That was one hell of a well timed and hugely athletic leap!

Congrats on the win. You have our number this year. Now please finish ahead of Philly because we have their first round draft pick

PS. Dumb ass announcer always harping on how many players on the first team are Canadian and overlooking Rochat because although a Canadian he can't play for our MNT so he doesn't count. How about the stats for the U20 MNT? 6 Caps, 5 TFC & 1 Impact (I'll give Montreal a pass because they just started recently).

I have never had as much fun chirping other human beings in my life. So glad caps fans were there to witness that.

That game was horrible, but I'll let you Toronto FC fans chirp away and have your fun. You don't get many opportunities to be on top.
