Well at least we have reached the point of admitting that rules of the game be damned, it had to be a goal.

Kyle's first challenge was close to acceptable and had the ball gone in from that it would have been called a goal. Referees usually give a small time window for the keeper to gain control. Like life there is the letter of the law and the interpretation.

Next up - how is the tackle our middle linebacker put on Wambach in the box not a PK?

The game was really a tale of two halves. By the score the first half was reasonable or even quite good but the reality is we were just obliterated.

At half-time two things happened. Herdman put them on the right mental page and the Americans dumbed down their roster swapping half the team (if you include Morgan's knock). We were especially fortunate with the changes to their back line; Mitts coming in wide and Rampone out from the middle.

    Someone called the game "respectable":

I don't think the game of soccer would agree having as many shots on your own net as your opponents is something to strive for.

The Americans had a finishing problem, and if they're not there yet they're close to the point where Wambach is a late-game specialty player for certain situations and opponents.

It was odd watching the Americans revert to the long ball. Haven't seen that in a long time. Maybe the heat was making them loco. Or maybe the flip side of their first half formation that was so strong on defending was they're weak going the other direction.

Great finish by Tancredi, almost as good as Moscato's (thought she was going to get her first brace later in the game).

Kyle kicking the ball a second time after Solo had corraled it was ridiculous.

I don't know how much we pay for sports pcyhe but here's hoping Schmidt and Parker can go for a long walk in the mountains and rediscover they're both absolutely fantastic players.

Sesselmann and Scott had good games.

When the second half started I said wow Canada is walking down the US defense like Japan does. That goal line save by Sesselman was brilliant. It was something that you often don't see from the US. Sesselman stayed in the play and kept going to cover if she needed to. When someone gets behind or Solo makes an initial save, the offense crashes the goal, but the US players just stand there and ball watch.
