CSL 2012--Week 9
Result of the Friday June 29, 2012 CSL game between
Mississauga Eagles FC vs Windsor Stars played at
Hershey Fields in Mississauga at 8:00pm.
78 min...Stars Cristian Dragoi GOAL...Dragoi takes
28 yard freekick from right that's bounce through
box as goalie Ivan Skoko misses ball and ball is crossed
back to Dragoi. He spins and takes 20 yard shot from
right to left side of net.
92 min...MEFC Thomas McLean trips Stars Cristian Dragoi
on run into left side of box. Referee Yusri Rudolph
calls a Penalty kick.
93 min...Stars Cristian Dragoi Penalty kick shot is wide
right of net.
Final Score:....Mississauga Eagles FC.....0.....
Windsor Stars.......1......
Attendance was about 120 on this mild evening but with
a breeze clearing out the hot air we've had for the last
few days.
Rogers Community Television taped this game for broadcast
on Saturday afternoon (said one of their crew) in the
Mississauga area. The game would be perfect for the
Toronto market too I'd say but Rogers Toronto on-line
listing shows we'll get TFC Academy vs Kingston FC on
Sunday night. That game was actually the first CSL game
of the season played in Kingston on May 5th but has never
been shown in the Toronto area.
Rogers threw their weight around by ordering the scoreboard
not to count down the time because the noise would distract
from the broadcast (?!) That was an inconvenience to the
crowd here tonight but to be honest the table-top scoreboard
they use is difficult to read across the field.
Anthony Santilli earned the shutout for the Stars.
There weren't many good chances by either team as most
of the action was in the midfield.
Best non-scoring chances were at (converted from my wristwatch)
15 minutes when WS Cristian Dragoi took a 35 yard freekick
from the left that had the flying goalie push wide right
for a cornerkick. 48 minutes had Dragoi center a short pass to
WS Michael Pio at 20 yards and the goalie made a point blank
smothering save at 16 yards. 74 minutes had Pio rush
down the right and crossed into the MEFC box with three Stars
players charging and Stars Michael Watson slid and took
a 15 yard shot down the middle just over the bar. 82 minutes
had MEFC Joey Melo take a 35 yard freekick from the right that
had MEFC Shaun MacDonald slide and head 10 yarder from the left
over the net wide right. 91 minutes had Melo cross from the left
end line that had MEFC Tristan Scott on right leap and pop header
over the net from 3 yards. 94 minutes had Stars Erik Cirovski
cross from 15 yards on the right that hit the top of the bar.
The Stars only had three subs on their bench and one of them
was a backup goalie. This is the first time I've seen the
team this season but one of the problems of the roster last
year and in their previous run as the Border Stars was
bringing enough players to their road games. If they are
assured of having a great home record they should be
able to make the playoffs.
Windsor's record improves to 4-3-1 and 7th place in one
of only five games this weekend. Mississauga falls
to 2-4-1 and is tied for 12th place. Eight teams make
the playoffs.

Result of the Sunday July 1st, 2012 CSL game between
Brampton City United and SC Waterloo played at
Victoria Park in Brampton at 3:00pm.
34 min...BCU Mark Jankovic GOAL...BCU Andy Garcia takes
35 yard freekick from the left into a crowd of players
in the box and the ball deflects off a body to Jankovic
who kicks 12 yarder up middle that's saved by sprawling
goalie Imad Hakura. Jankovic gets to the 6 yard rebound
and shoots low into the left corner of net.
78 min...BCU Milos Scepanovic GOAL...Scepanovic receives
pass on left from BCU Alex Braletic and after a short run
shoots 12 yarder over sliding goalie into net.
Final Score:......Brampton City United.......2.....
...SC Waterloo......0........
Attendance was about 80 on this very hot and humid day
with a bright sun in the south west. I was waiting all
week for an announcement that the starting time of the game
would be changed (as some other teams had delayed their games
in the last few weeks--including MLS Toronto FC the Saturday
before) but the stadium was booked for a CSL Reserves
League game between these two clubs' 'B' teams right
after this game. We were not kept in the dark about the
score in the Euro Cup final because the PA announcer
was listening to the broadcast from his SUV but he
became less enthusiastic as Italy got further behind.
The drive home was easy as their were no honking horns
on my drive back east through the border of Woodbridge.
Jason Lopes earned the shutout for BCU. He had some
important saves to make but both goalies benefited
from the frequent offside calls made on most of the
through passes tried during the game.
It was a rough game but referee Stephen DePiero kept
the teams under control giving out some Yellow cards.
It appeared as if SC Waterloo manager Vojislav Brisevis
was sitting on the players bench but suspended head coach
Lazo Dzepina was yelling instructions from the stands
and opposite sideline to SC Waterloo players the entire game.
Best non-scoring chances were at 55 minutes where BCU
Jean Tshimpaka made a long run on the left holding off
a defender and getting away a low 12 yard shot that the
sliding goalie stopped. Tshimpaka was injured on the
play and was still limping when he was subbed off
five minutes later. 60 minutes had SCW Drazen Vukovic
being tapped over a freekick at 25 yards and he shot
down the middle just wide right of the post. SCW
Shawn Brown couldn't win a Penalty kick when he was bumped
over running into the BCU box at 73 minutes. 2nd half
injury time had Vukovic rush on the left and deke the
charging goalie on the edge of the box but his 12 yard shot
deflected off a retreating defender for a cornerkick.
The win vaults BCU into a tie for 5th place with a
4-2-2 record. SC Waterloo after a fast start at
the beginning of the season falls to 3-6-0 and
11th spot.
This report is later than usual as when I got home
I had supper and then draped a Canadian flag over my
shoulders and walked down to Mel Lastman Centre among
some wearing Spanish soccer team jerseys and folks
who'd been at the Pride parade in the afternoon
and watched the band Slakadeliqs and then the fireworks
for Canada Day.
