Look, the announced attendance is definitely higher than actual bodies in the stands, and that gap has clearly grown this year. But to even suggest ten percent as fact without any hint of irony is incredible.
Obviously 10% is an exaggeration. But I love how it gets all the apologists up in arms.
I've seen David Bailey mention 12,000 as the real number. That sounds fair to me (queue some apologist saying it was higher...)
Insulting those who call you out on a complete BS number that you attempted to pass of as fact, that's the mark of someone without an actual argument.
For 12,000 to be in the building, it would be the equivalent of removing the entire east and south stand (10,000 seats). Of course, I'm an apologist for bring such facts up (my estimate for yesterday was around 16-17,000, but then I was actually at the stadium, unlike the non-apologist who can tell what 10% of a stand looks like from on TV).
Obviously anybody watching on TV does not have the whole picture. But the grey maple leaf in the stand was clearly visible throughout the entire match, not just the beginning and end of halves as is often the case. Whether or not the crowds are as poor as some are saying, the optics are pretty bad.
