Thread: Only show in town? The Montreal Impact!?

I have heard that the reason they are putting in turf this season is that they want to put in an undersoil heating system. Since the construction schedule is so tight, they won't have time to do it this year, so they will do it at the end of the season, and then put in the grass. Short-term pain for long-term gain.

I've also heard something similar from a club employee

Undersoil heating is such an obvious necessity I don't understand why WAY more groups don't install it - including amateur organisations. If you install it, you largely eliminate the need to have artificial turf, because you can water the grass heavily for six days to promote growth, then turn the heat on for 24 hours before the game to dry it back out. But then again, I also marvel at the stupidity of Canadians in not putting overhead cover above the seats in Canadian stadiums . . .

I also marvel at condescending posters who talk out of their backside about technology they clearly know very little about.

Joey said grass is currently being grown for them. They have a new type of grass more suitable for Montreal weather and have set a deadline as to when it has to be installed

How is the team doing with fans there? Anyone know what the season ticket numbers are like? Many people wearing jerseys on the street? Kids?

I really want MTL to do well... Except on the pitch when playing TO.

So far "not bad" meaning it could be better but it could be worse... We do not have a Seattle type support yet as far as atmosphere/consistent attendance etc.. BUT home opener vs Fire we had a crowd of 58K+, TFC game 23K + and today against the Timbers 19K and change. Also with coming games vs LA and NY I would expect around 30K+ (Beckham/Henry) . Also enough jerseys around but weather hasn't been good enough to always see what people are wearing as shirts.

That's pretty accurate. I think the city has been very accommodating. I think the team is heading in the right direction. They have yet to lose at home, and they've progressed on the road.

The club's first signing, Nelson Rivas is expected back soon. If he remains healthy, this is a solid partner for Matteo Ferrari. The club is also rumored to be linked with the arrival of Marco Di Vaio , or another big name, hopefully from Serie A. Add a solid left back, an offensive minded central midfielder, and you have a solid team.

I think alot of fans are going to be willing to make the effort to see the club play in it's refurbished, 20431 capacity Saputo stadium. The club is confident that they will play their first match in their new stadium on June 16, against Seattle Sounders.

After three games, the club has an average attendance of 33731. Hopefully they could sell out Saputo stadium regularly. That would also mean that the club could increase their season ticket range from their current 10k.
