NLSA Canada Games Men Acropolis Cup Champions, Women fall in Dallas Cup Quarters
The NLSA Canada Games Men’s team are champions of the 31st annual Acropolis Cup. The team defeated Italian club Casalvieri Frosinone 2-1 to take home the silverware. Jordi Slaney opened the scoring in the 10th minute with an impressive individual effort. Josh Hanrahan increased the lead early in the second half via a Carter Mackey cross, but the Italians responded quickly from a set piece. There were some tense moments in the dying minutes but the Newfoundlanders saw out the victory and return home champions.
The Toyota Plaza Canada Games women played in the quarter final of the Dallas Cup against the Dallas Texans 96 ECNL losing 3-2.
The Dallas Texans scored two early goals at 11 & 18 minutes. Connie Lewis scored for Toyota Plaza Canada Games at twenty five minutes from the six yard box . She tucked the ball low to the corner after Jane Pope worked hard to feed the ball to Connie. Lewis scored her second goal of the game and third of the tournament at the fifty one minute mark on a hard blast from thirty yards out to the top right hand corner. The game was tied after regular time so went to extra time. The team had some good scoring chances but the Dallas Texans scored on a scramble from a corner kick in injury time for the win. The team battled hard to fight back from an early two goal deficit.
