At BBTB, I agree on moving Eck into the centre, he does screw up his marking at times though but he would be an improvement.

Definitely understand where you are coming from. I hoped they would hang in there with Preki but the groundswell of opinion definitely was against that and there was a definite clamour for a more attacking style. Hopefully Winter won't be too ideological about the Ajax tactics stuff and will find another short term fix similar to moving Frings to sweeper.

    Maybe Earl Cochrane was sent?

I would also add that the loss to injury of the in form Maicon Santos at CF during the same time was a significant factor in the attack drying up. That tends to get forgotten in light of how ineffective he was last year in the miscast role of attacking mid after DeRo was traded. (Conincidentally, I see that the two are reunited in DC: I'm curious to see how that we'll pan out).

I will roll the clock back a year ago when the new coaching staff stated the players at the club where not his choice he inherited them, well he got rid off most of them. Here we are a year later, so who's players are they now, the coaching staff signed these players so no excuses. It all comes down to the fact that the current coaching staff, and taking nothing away Winter was a quality player, unfortunately he came to TFC with no experience as a coach of senior professional players, no proven record, nor did Deklerk, they where youth team coaches we should not over look this fact.
It is very evident that they struggle to coach defending at this level of play, they signed the current defenders and as we can all see in 2 league games 6 goals against and 1 goal for.
Stabilizing the back four should have been a priority from day one, I think they were under the illusion that the team would score a ton of goals so conceding would go unnoticed. I do not think the current coaching staff give enough respect to the MLS, the players or the quality of coaches that are in the MLS, in the two games played they have been out coached with tactical play.
I hope TFC turn it around as there is nothing more than to have a successful pro club in our City, it just seems excuse after excuse, meanwhile other teams go out and do the business, I see other teams playing a much better brand of soccer, MLSE should have hired the current coach of Seattle 2 seasons ago, we would have had a winning franchise, the fantastic fans that TFC have deserve a much better product on the field.

I'm not quite ready to hang Winter out to dry yet, I think we need to give him the season, I like the idea, it will take a bit to put it fully into action.

I think he handles administrative tasks more than anything else? Think scouting would be Paul Mariner's area but I don't think that lets Winter and De Klerk totally off the hook because they must at the very least have watched video of the players in action.

None of the 'other' defenders (Cann, Henry, Nana) are really what I suspect Winter is looking for. On the other hand, the good moments on the weekend did not come from the CBs playing the ball out of the back but came from the fullbacks and others. If the CBs had simply been able to mark well, win the ball and get it back to the defensive midfielders/fullbacks TFC would have been in good shape. Therefore, I wonder if it is necessary to have CBs who are great initiating the buildup. At the very least it would be an improvement to get good, athletic, quick ball-winners who have difficulty with the ball at their feet rather than mediocre, slow, poor man-markers who also have difficulty with the ball at their feet.

In the CBs defense, how much of the issue could be hung on DeGuz losing his assignment or Morgan or Ecks being over committed (especially on the 2nd goal)? I don't have a perfect memory of the play, but I seem to recall watching San Jose countering with Harden, Aceval, and one other back to defend and thinking 'uh-oh'.

I'd bet the farm that was the extent of the scouting. I would be really surprised if any of them traveled to Chile or Ecuador to watch either of them. I have a strong hunch MLS has snatched up a heap of players from Columbia + S.America on the cheap given the financial struggles of so many leagues down there and is just offering them around ala Sanyang/Gomez. I think there are somewhere upwards of 20 new players from that area this season and I can't imagine all these clubs actually went down there and followed these guys first hand.

According to an article in the Toronto Sun today Adrian Cann might be ready by next weekend:

Cann behind Aceval and Harden might be worth a try.

Why Cann behind Harden? What has Ty Harden ever done to warrant playing time for TFC?

Give me Cann on one leg ahead of Ty Harden.
