Default Paul James on his Crack addiction

A very well-written Neil Davidson story out today:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/02...n_1272499.html

My information has it that at least one other prominent ex-player for Canada now coaching has similar problems, though I also wonder if someone confused James with someone else.

I'll go further: I wonder if one of Paul's motivations is to get the CSA and Cdn soccer to wake up to what is right now under their nose. Because all that emphasis on the fear and anxiety of getting caught while coaching for Canada seems to me like a message to someone. And as I say, I have been told that someone else still in the mix has a similar problem.

    As it were.

(I'm planning to have a review of James's book up sometime early this week.)

Shocking revelations. And he even goes into the match fixing scandal and reveals some things that we never knew. Many of us thought he was the strictly the whistleblower but then we get this:

"Adding to his lack of confidence was the permanent black cloud of a match-fixing scandal in 1986 in Singapore while playing for Canada. The initial ring of four Canadian players approached James before the semifinal and he agreed to join them for $10,000."

I was very shock to hear this story. I still can't get over it. The golden heroe that scored that crucial World Cup goal against Costa Rica at Varsity Stadium 1986 was doing hard core cocaine. I don't know what to say. This guy played a major role in Canada's 1986 World Cup campaign. He's a Canadian World Cup heroe.

    Shoeless Paul James?

****, that's awful. I hope he's able to keep moving on the clean path. It won't be easy, and he may have relapses, but if he falls I hope he keeps getting back up.

I feel for him and give him HUGE congrats on getting clean (don't kid yourself - he's an addict for life now whether he is using or not) and for coming out. That must have been gut-wrenching to do and to even consider. His support network must be immense for him.

Wow, that's pretty rough news. Glad that he's managing a recovery and has someone by his side, to support him along the way. Best wishes!!!
