Sure clubs are interested in match scouting, so they might also tap into this type of information, but if that is a cover for this activity then sorry.
The links between the betting and match fixing are well documented in Declan Hill's book "The Fix". Interest has extended into fixing matches at major youth tournaments throughout Europe for betting purposes; you can encounter persons providing live "match stats" for betting into their cell phones at these tournaments. Lower tier leagues are increasingly popular targets for betting because for the moment they are thought to be less likely to be fixed, but as accessibility of these matches to betting increases so will the likelihood that there will be efforts to fix them.
Again, this kind of thing has the potential of destroying football around the world and should not be approached nor quietly condoned by anyone who cares about the sport. Encroachment into Canadian soccer could be damaging to longterm development of a stable development path of players, for this reason I think this 'advertisement' should be strongly unwelcome on the Voyageurs forum and fellow Voyageurs should be vigilant of anyone providing live match stats into their cell phone.
