Thread: Should the WWC be played more frequently?

Default Should the WWC be played more frequently?

Just throwing it out there. Would it better for women's soccer to play the WWC every one/two/three years? It's the one event that allows the women's game to break through into mainstream consciousness so would it be better to expose the public to it more often? Or would that water down its importance?

The Olymipics allow full women's teams so you do have two world championships every 4 years. You also wouldn't want to interfer with men's continental championships which at least in Europe and South America rival the intensity of a World Cup.

I say leave it at every 4 years, like the men's WC. Personally I'd rather see all the WC's including the U-17 and U-20 played every 4 years. That being said I can see how that would be a bit impractical at the youth levels. Leave them as is. What will help is getting more teams into the WWC, which we will see in 2015. That can do nothing more than improve the women's game.

In South America there is also the yearly Libertadores (women) Cup, which is a club championship under the auspices of the Conmebol I believe. In my view there is plenty of women competition if one cares to look for it. On the other hand it would be nice to see more countries having decent women leagues and at various levels of skill.
