    Default Canadians abroad: May 27 - June 2, 2011

    Guidelines for this thread

    • In this thread post match updates on all Canadians abroad for May 27 - June 2, 2011.

    • If you find updates posted in some other thread or on the other Voyageurs forum then post them here as well, but be sure to credit the original poster.

    • If there is news that is particularly significant (eg. someone scores a big goal, someone gets injured, etc.) then feel free to begin a new thread on that topic in order to draw greater attention or start a discussion, but also post that news here.

    • Some comments on news posted in this thread are okay, but let's not let this thread go off into a long discussion. If the news already appears in another thread (as per the previous bullet) then post your comments in that other thread, otherwise if you want to say something significant or if it is likely to generate replies then begin a new thread.

Perhaps due to the fact they saw his name in the Canadian squad and remembered that, oh yeah, he was still on the books, second-from-bottom and already-relegated Nimes gave Haidar Al-Shaibani a very rare start, in a 2-1 loss vs second-placed Ajaccio. He got a yellow card in the first half and then was bizarrely subbed out in the 87th min. Maybe they wanted the club to be able to say goodbye to him like clubs occasionally do with a late sub (or goodbye to his replacement and regular starter Butelle). I dunno, but with the win Ajaccio are promoted.

    - Lars got a clean sheet as Valarenga benefited from an own goal to win 1-0 away to Sogndal.

    - Pozniak started and played 90 as Haugesund beat up Molde 5-0 at home.

    - Issey was a half-time substitute in Horsens' 2-1 loss to Silekeborg. Still struggling to get back in the starting 11 despite the club's very poor run of form.

    - Bellisomo stayed on the bench, Trafford started and played 90 as Mariehamn lost 1-0 away to VPS in Finnish action Sunday.

EDIT: Chencinski started for VPS and got the clean sheet.

    - Matt Lam stayed on the bench for JEF United Chiba's 3-2 victory over Oita.

    - Borjan's Rad played at home to Habitfarm Javor Sunday. Ends scoreless with no sign of Borjan. Is already en route?

From what I could understand from the translation, Massih Wassey scored the third goal for Fortuna II in their 4-0 win over Wuppertaler SV Borussia. It was a shot from 17 metres out just 2 minutes after coming on. Fortuna II still relegated. Not sure how far down they go now.

According to Ben Rycroft, he was already in Toronto on Friday.

I posted last week about Vladimir Vukovic in Boden (Sweden tier 3 AKA div 1 north). From what I've found on the "interwebs", http://www.eliteprospects.com/fotbol...p?player=13099 he is listed as a Canadian and played in the U20 world cup, once upon a time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vukovic_Vladimir Someone pls correct me if something's changed with his "status".

Nevertheless, Vlad played in Sunday's away match against Stockholm's Väsby United and for the second week in a row, he assisted on Boden's goal. It was tied 1-1 when he was subbed off the 79th min. Unfortunately for Boden, Väsby scored in the 88th min to win 2-1, putting them at the top of the table. Meanwhile the team from little Boden (from north north north Sweden) sits 3rd from bottom in the relegation zone.

You could see Borjan training in Toronto with the MNT players in the CSA video posted in the Ecuador pre-game thread.

Since FK Rad had nothing to play for in the end of the season I think they let Borjan leave earlier for GC prep.

Poli Timisoara relegated because of financial difficulties. From Champions League to relegation in a blink of an eye. Bloody hell.
