    Default U17 WWC Canada - Brazil : Anything is possible as long as Canada can score a goal

    With group D 4 teams equal with a win and a loss, anything can still happen. However Canada has to score at least a goal or they will be eliminated Brazil and Ireland having already scored 2 goals while Canada and Ghana have only one.

    It will be interesting to see a canadian team that has concentrated exclusively on defense to be forced to score at least a goal against Brazil to keep their second round hopes alive, a 0-0 draw meaning their tournament would be over. If they don't show more offense than the two first games, I'm afraid they will be done. There won't be any excuse for lack of offense, if any, since they know well in advance defense won't make it for them. Inability to score a goal in that crucial game will be the proof of lack of offensive talent and / or inadequate preparation. Let's go Canada ! Show us where's the offense (if any) !

    In the other game, I pick up Ghana over Ireland of what I have seen of those two teams against Canada. Ghana is better than I expected and Ireland will have to play better than today if they want to go through first round.

    Oh ya, this group is really up in the air. Should be interesting. I agree that Ghana should take care of Ireland as they should have beat us also and be sitting pretty in 1st place. Can't believe Ireland beat Germany in the Euro qualifications... it is the exact same type of shocking upset that we had vs. USA!

    Brasil - Canada is a classic match of different styles. We did look better yesterday so we stand a chance.

    It is so difficult to predict a win or loss at this level. One thing is for sure finishing has its advantages over defence. From what I saw of the two games it was Ireland who had the "touch" around the net. Ghana seemed to stumble when confronted by a strong defence. Both team were able to get the ball in deep against the Canadians but the Irish were the ones who produced a goal that took skill. Will the Brazilian team have the same skill in finishing?

    What does the Ghana win say about the Brazil defence? Canada has not yet demonstrated they can score from the run of the play. However Ghana and Ireland proved the Brazil defence can be penetrated. The question is… can Canada's offence penetrate the Brazilian defence and equal that of Ghana's and Ireland’s offence? If Canada cannot produce a goal they are out for sure.

    if the don't pass the ball in the attacking third then its all over but the crying ... re-watch the game and you will see many many many times that wingers were wide open for Canada yet an attacker chose the "too much individualisin route" ... last time I checked soccer is a team game ...

    Tie breakers: GF is third after points and goal differential. After that the only ones that matter are fair play (yellows and reds) and then lottery.

    So if the girls want to advance, they must beat Brazil, unless Ghana and Ireland draw.

    In that case they must draw Brazil while
    • scoring more than the final score of Ghana and Ireland, or
    • the same score and keep to the same number of fouls as Ireland gets in the Ireland / Ghana draw.
      (Ghana drew 5 yellows against Brazil; Ireland drew one against Ghana).

    edited to add, the games will be concurrent so that you can't go into your match knowing what you must do based on the result of the other match. Canada must not scoreboardwatch, they must go out with the mindset that they have to win.

    What worries me about Brazil is that they seem to like to shoot from long range as we saw many times in their game vs Ghana. And their shots were pretty accurate although I do not recall them scoring. The point is that they have that to fall back on if they can't get thru Canada's defense.

    A scoreless draw is a distinct possibility, although the Irish penetrated Canada's back four a couple of times I suspect corrections will be worked on and we will see a game devoid of quality scoring opportunities.

    They can't draw 0:0...That would be out for Canada...

    What Brian Rosenfeld has to do is to rekindle the athmospere when they beat mexico and USA in the Qalifiers...The longer they keep Brazil off the sheet,the bigger chance they have to sneak in...Ghana will probably beat Ireland.{which means that Brazil could be out,if Canada beats them}
