I have been out of the loop for awhile so I don't know if anything is being done about this, or if there is going to be time to do something if not. But Diesel will become the most capped player in Canadian history on home turf in Montreal on Tuesday. V's who are going to be at the game, is there any way you guys would be able to publicly acknowledge this accomplishment, beyond the song Spurs fans used to sing in his honour? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNKSKIouPAE
Like I said I have been out of the loop here for a long time so something might be planned already. But if not, and someone in Montreal has the time to get something together (like a congratulations plaque on behalf of the V's????) for his accomplishment I think that would be a classy move to show our appreciation for all he has done for the nats. I'd kick in cash, if needed.
^ I would take a lot of work but a banner thanking Stalteri for his years wearing the maple leaf.
You think hes done with the national team after tuesday? Has this been said anywhere or are we just hoping
"Greatness, no matter how brief, stays with a man"
I vote for a plaque. It is something he can proudly hang on a wall together with all his other awards. Can the Voyageurs logo be engraved?
"Charmaine Hooper... the best player ever"
Scary indeed! I appreciate the commitment Stalteri has made to the national team but his lack of playing time at the club level means that his marking abilities and pace have noticeably diminished. He gets burned too easily now.
As for commemorating his service, a plaque sounds like an excellent and feasible idea.
Paul Stalteri is one of the hardest-working players that ever worn a Canadian jersey. There was a time he was a favourite whipping boy for our MNT (Holger days), but since his goal against Costa Rica in the 2003 Gold Cup, he has earned my respect.
He has always answered the call for Canada, and while I wish he still was playing first-team football and had the energy of ten years ago, he deserves all the praise and respect of the Voyageurs and the MNT. Just like Radzinski, I'm hoping that if he can't play, maybe he can lend his leadership and experience to the National team on a coaching capacity, as part of the staff.
