Case in point: during the latter stages of the US-England match (the only part of the game I was able to watch) Crouch was called by the RA for a foul on the American defender when the cross was played in his direction. It wasn't close to being offside (as shown by the high tech replay graphic), yet the announcer simply persisted that it was simply a wrong offside decision, even though the RA's flag work indicated it was a foul. In today's game the Serbian player had fallen to the ground yet continued to play and kick at the ball between two Ghanians: it is my understanding that that is a foul for dangerous play and was rightfully called by the ref, yet the commentator was perplexed by the decision.

I guess I'm too cranky and picky in my old age.
I noticed the same thing and was wondering if the commentator bothered to look at the AR o he simply does not know the different flag signals. The commentators seem to make up stuff a lot.

With respect to the studio team they should cut Scott Russell and have Mitch Peacock be the host for all of it. A host doesn't have to be an expert but they can't sound like an idiot which Scott Russell consistently manages to do. Peacock is soccer literate

I guess Russell's the network's new Brian Williams who has to do all the anchor events. As for the panel, I haven't listened to them yet: I just skip the recording ahead to the second half. I'm guessing it's a lot of dead air, but maybe I'm wrong.

I think the CBC Panels have been really bad, and this fan nation thing is embarassing. Just tell me about the game.

if I recall correctly for the other day, one of the games they were watching, they didn't talk about it at half time, they went straight into the preview for the next game, I was like 'da ****?'

Yes! I find Scott Russell extremely annoying. Amongst other things, like his lack of soccer knowledge, he's full of clichés and always sounds like he's reading a script.

But rather than be annoyed, I had to laugh when, in the Germany vs. Australia post-game, he said something along the lines of "Germany's performance can be summed up in one word: absolutely dominating".

Yes. So true, i absolutely hate it too. I cringe everytime networks do that kind of stuff (for all sports events) because you never see anyone saying anything interesting or insightfull about the game(s). Central theme, "see how fun watching the WC is". Yes, its fun, we know that but do we need to be told that a thousand times. If I want to hear someone's opinion, let it be someone who is knowledgeable and not someone idiot guy or girl in a bar who is only there because its cool to be there. Duh. when ypu see someone in an english clad gear and uniform Do I need to hear the announcer ask who they are cheering for?

Overall though, I have to give the CBC a good grade. Come on guys, TSN had really gotten lousy with its in-studio commentary which consisted of cliches, telling us the painfully obvious and relaying information that basically came from the fifa webpage. We are seeing abig improvement with the in studio

I heard that ITV in England missed the opening goal in the USA vs England game.

I think CBC has done a fine job.

He's okay but I was annoyed when he made a big misleading point about the last time that Holland lost an opening match at the WC was 1938, but then failed to mention that they didn't play in another WC until 36 years later. Maybe he clarified that point later on, I don't know. Otherwise, he's been solid.
