Strange, you must have had your TV volume turned down. My daughter commented on how unusually noisy the crowd was.
I was watching the TFC v FC Dallas game on CBC and couldn't believe how quiet the fans were?? I thought this to be strange. I had to go pick up my daughter from piano lessons and listened to the game on the FAN 590 for ten minutes. It was loud, the crowd was singing and going crazy. Why does the CBC choose to ignore the true passion of the game? I believe this is a mistake. They are not televising a baseball game.

Maybe CBC didn't crank noise up because some of chants have swearing in them????
It also makes it easier to fall asleep listening to Nigel Reed.
I suspect this is the reason. There was a funny moment on the broadcast of our game against Joe Public when their shaky keeper made another bobble and DeVos made a comment about how shaky he was. Almost as if on queue we started singing, "You're shi-t and you know you are." We got through one stanza that is loud and clear on the broadcast and you can hear they immediately switched off the mic near us and went to a midfield mic where you can still hear it but only in the background.quote:Originally posted by TFC07

I find this a bit stupid in this day and age with so much swearing on tv and in public that they feel they have to do this. I guess CBC feels it is necessary to pander to the Richards of the world!![]()

I'd say I have quite a potty mouth on occasion, using derivatives of the F word like Picasso works in oils, but there is a time and place, and it is not in public.
Profanity shows no wit nor class. I know a lot of the young guys won't agree with me; it just shows how classless and brain dead they are when wrapped up in the group dynamic of the pack mentality.
No wonder I take refuge in those old movies and docs from before my time, unfortunately they show just how far we've fallen.
Ya same here. We can't expect CBC or any other broadcaster to leave up some of the more foul mouthed chants between four to six in the afternoon.quote:Originally posted by Joe MacCarthy

While thankfully the CRTC is not the FCC, there are still regulations regarding language on the airwaves (cablewaves?) and if there are complaints, the CBC will have to answer to the CRTC.
It's just not worth it for them. Hey, I can be a bit potty-mouthed too but I don't expect any broadcaster to willfully send my words across the nation.
Pity, as CBC was the only channel in 2007 and 2008 with the balls to mic the TFC supporters. It gave the match some excitement (whereas Sportsnet broadcasts have been snoozefests because they purposely avoid the supporters).
It's all down to microphone placement. On mlsnet.com they have the basic CBC feed minus Nigel Reed's commentary and it was very obvious that they were trying to get more of the noise from out on the field of play. Most of the chants were still coming over loud and clear so I'm not sure it's a major issue at this point.quote:Originally posted by Prof
