I would suggest people read the above ...from FIFA, and then understand that all the blame for the after events fall to the FIFA appointed Match Commissioner...
1) ..was the below done ?
6. MEETING WITH THE TEAMS AND OTHER OFFICIALS
6.1. Official Meeting
The following persons are required to attend the official meeting convened
by the commissioner:
– the heads of both team delegations;
– the coaches (or assistants) of both teams;
– both team doctors;
– the heads of administration of both delegations;
– the presidents of both national associations, if requested;
– the referee inspector, if appointed;
– the FIFA security officer, if appointed;
– the FIFA media officer, if appointed;
– the referees and assistant referees;
– the representatives of the organisers;
– the stadium authorities (stadium director);
– the organisers’ head of security;
– the person assigned to assist the commissioner;
– the interpreters of both team delegations, if required.
In addition to the afore-mentioned persons, the meeting shall be attended by
the following persons in the case of high-risk matches:
– chief of police;
– chief of medical services;
– chief of fire brigade.[/b]
Clearly a Chile vs Argentina game ..at U20 ...semi final is a HIGH RISK MATCH...
The document is clear and comprehensive..what is left to be answered is...
Who was appointed by FIFA for this Match ..and carried the responsiblity for game Security...
And folks dont say the Local Organising Ctte... its not them its the FIFA appointed Match Commisioner..who has the full power and responsiblity ...to do the job.
How can you blame FIFA for what Chile did, this is what CHILEANS DO, ALL THE TIME.
- Brawl with Cops at 2007 U20 after getting humiliated
- Drunken hotel rampage at Copa America
- Riot with Brasil fiasco after the "Fake injury from flare thrown by supporters/ Take razor blade to own head in order to escape sure defeat in Brasil/ Get Chile banned from 2 World Cups"
- 1962 World Cup "Battle of Santiago" where Chile picks a fight with Italy, starts a riot, and gets dragged off the field by the cops
- and so on.
Nothing of what happened on the field of play during the game excuses or justifies the bad behaviour of players after the match and outside the stadium. There would appear to have been adequate security in place for the transfer of players from the dressingroom to the bus. It is clear where the blame for what happened really lies - with the players and their adult Chilean supervisors.

I was cheering for Argentina as 1) I actually like Argentina and 2) as much as I like Sulantay and some of the players, I wanted Argentina to avenge the Portuguese loss or as I call it 'Chile Divefest 2007', but in chile's defence, that's 4 incidents since 1962.
To say Chileans do this all the time, is to say Portuguese do nothing but dive (we fight the refs and each other as well) and the English are nothing but hooligans. Yes, there are ugly parts that rear their heads from time to time, but let's keep some perspective. Chileans are just like everyone else.
Sorry, I don't think it is quite that clear. The Police's primary role is to manage high risk conflict situations in a manner that difuses them. It is extremely naive on the part of the police if they thought all they had to do was to protect public property.
The incident involving the Police does need to be separated from what happened on the field of play. When it is, how is it so difficult to get a bunch of emotionally charged teenagers on a bus in a peaceful manner? It is no different than getting a visiting junior hockey team on a bus after a particularly difficult playoff game in small town Canada. This is not a particularly unusual situation when looking solely at the after-game debacle.
After all, the Police are trained professionals and should be able to deal with situations far worse than this one.

Howdi folks. I am actaully in Chile right now and I have been here long enough to know that that many of the people here are reckless and stupid and times. I don't know how many riots there have been since I have been here; I may or may not be able to count them on one hand. The police have serveral water cannon buses and other vehicals that are obviously not for regular patrol. I have been warned about going to a local futbol match.
However, most of the people that I meet here are mild mannered and level headed; even a little dull. Perhapse they all go a little crazy on game day...a little crazy...a little bonkers.
This is my first post in a long time. I'm a friend and former employee with Current Champ. I'm not really much of a sports fan. Living here in Chile, my synasism is strengthened when I see smell the reeking river and see the garbage in the street like leaves in autom. How can people care about Kick-ball when their city is filthy? [?]
I did have a good time in 2004 when I went to Edmonton to see Canada vs. Honduras.

don't forget the 1987 Sir Stanley Matthews Tournament. When the Chilean's MNT, staff and fans attacked the referees at the end of the game at Varsity. Police had to intervene as well.
sorry, make that 1988
Don't forget the fight with the Canadian supporters in the stands on July 1st.quote:Originally posted by BrennanFan
