There is a lesson to be learned. FIFA is actually going to look into the Nigerian claims of racist refereeing. So it does pay to complain. Something our CSA and Linford needed to do after twice being 'discriminated' by mexican Archundia.

If this is true and FIFA is really investigating then it is another mark of shame on a shameful organization. There is a lot of things they could investigate about FIFA referreeing but this is not one of them. It is obvious to any neutral person watching the game that there was no racism in the referreeing. In fact, this was Howard Webb's best game of the tournament. I don't think he is a very good referree but I don't believe for a minute that he is racist and I thought he did a good job in this game unlike most of the other games he reffed. Maybe they should investigate why he was chosen to ref games in the advanced rounds even though he had been poor in the group stage. I have lost all respect for the Nigerian team though and am now happy they got blown out by the Chileans.

Maybe the Chilean coach should complain that the German ref was reacist and hates Chileans and prefers the racially superior Argentinians (Argentina ueber alles, ueber alles in die Welt). He would at least have a better case for this than the Nigerian coach.

The problem with that is that you are anticipating his comments. And his comments were in fact very balanced and soft, I was surprised in fact. So it isn't really fair to even mention him on this thread because he was rather responsible considering (considering the ref clearly did hurt his team and his decisions were possibly important in the result).

Come on Jeffery, have you never heard of sarcasm? The point of the post was that this was by far a worse reffed match than the Nigeria one in which claims of racism were made. Here even if one could show that there was bias it couldn't be due to racism because there is not a lot of racial difference between Argentines and Chileans. If the Nigerian coach claimed the ref was racist based on his game against Chile can you imagine what he would have claimed in this match if he had been the Chilean coach?

Come on Grizz, sarcasm is cultural, you should know that sarcasm is non-existent in Spain...

Thanks for clarifying. I was just concerned that since noone has posted the Chile coach's reaction it might be misinterpreted or mis- represented. This is the idiotic coach thread after all.

I think we agree on the Nigerian coach's reaction though. I even thought that considering many of the Chile players have indigenous blood, you'd have to come up with a rather complicated argument about Africans vs. Indians, which would be a bit of a mess. I mean, why would the English ref not be racist towards native Americans but to Africans?

In any case, what a coach says just after a game is one thing, what he really thinks, tells his players, or says to justify his failures to his federation, is often quite another thing. Sometimes coaches are not as idiotic as they appear, the rhetoric is meant to save their butts, save the players' face or take a bit of the sting of the whole affair in general.
