We should sing The Maple Leaf Forever
July 1st. is almost here - but I haven't heard any suggestions for new Team Canada chants for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
To get things going, here are a couple of suggestions:
1) A new version of 'O Canada' to the tune of Londonderry Air (Danny Boy)
Oh Can-a-da, the fans, the fans are calling
From New-found-land, to beautiful BC
The Maple Leaf, forever proudly waving
For you're our team, from sea to shining sea
We're here for you, when summer's in the meadow
And when our land is hushed and white with snow
We'll cheer for you, in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Can-a-da, TEAM CAN-A-DA, we love you so
We'll follow you, from St.John’s to Vancouver
And overseas from Scotland to Japan
We will not rest, until the game is over
And Can-a-da, are winning once again
We're here for you, when summer's in the meadow
And when our land is hushed and white with snow
We'll cheer for you, in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Can-a-da, TEAM CAN-A-DA, we love you so
Oh Can-a-da, TEAM CAN-A-DA, we love you so
2) This Team is Your Team (This Land is Your Land)
This team is your team, this team is my team
From Bonavista, to Vancouver Island
From the Arctic Circle, to the Great Lake Wa-a-ters
This team was made for you and me
We’ve got Dave Edgar, and Jaime Peters
We’ve got Will Johnson, and Tosaint Ricketts
We’ve got Gabe Gala and Andrea Lom-bar-do
This team was made for you and me
This team is your team, this team is my team
From Bonavista, to Vancouver Island
From the Arctic Circle, to the Great Lake Wa-a-ters
This team was made for you and me
(Add other player names for another verse – but I’m not sure that Kennedy Owusu-Ansah and Nana Attakora-Gyan are easy to fit in!)
Not technically for the boys, but it might make them smile a bit with a fine rendition of Hit the Road Jack
A good Canadian chant...
na na na na, na na na na, ay ay ay, goodbye...
I'm pretty sure it's a Canadian song, known by all, both soccer fans and non-fans in Canada...start that chant and you'll have the whole stadium follow suit...granted we need to be winning so it might be awhile...lol
I think it came outta motown...quote:Originally posted by Greek

I'm pretty sure it's a Canadian song,
We should all learn the "shut your f**king face uncle f**ker" song as that is definetally Canadian.
And it won an oscar.
Hear, hear, kicking tune. Not the easiest for a crowd to sing though, with octave intervals etc. Could sing the chorus, quote:Originally posted by canadiankick97
We should sing The Maple Leaf Forever
"The Maple Leaf, our emblem dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever,
God save our King and Heaven bless
the Maple Leaf forever."
Seems a little corny and out of date today but I love it. Would absolutely love to hear a stadium rocking to it. Probably a bit "Imperial" for the tastes of many Canadians.
A classic from childhood:
Let's go Canada Let's go ooh ooh
imagine 35000 singing that...lol
You all know how I feel, you can't go wrong with "The Maple Leaf Forever"
I remember posting this back in 2005:
In day of yore, from Canada's shore,
scores of Voyageurs set sail.
To cheer en masse and raise a glass,
for Canada's fair domain.
So here it flies, our boast our pride,
We join in voice together.
To sing as one with devotion,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
(Chorus)
The Maple Leaf, our emblem dear.
The Maple Leaf Forever.
May heaven bless and save out team.
The Maple Leaf Forever.

I must admit, back then, the words were less pc. The third line used to read "To squeeze a lass and raise a glass..."![]()

Yeah, if were going to call the national team "Team Canada" might as well have a hockey cheer.quote:Originally posted by Greek
