It looks like the final was 2-1 Scotland.

I'm happy we're playing with two forwards. Maybe they wanted to let Lombardo play with someone after spending the first half Saturday all alone.

    cheers,

Seems like Lomabardo only came on in minute 86. Ricketts and Elliot were the starting strikers. Lammie came on at the half and Ricketts was replaced by Nunez.

I didn't realize it was quite that late.

So if Ricketts was replaced by Nunez, we were back to 4-5-1, unless Elliott was withdrawn. Hopefully Lammie didn't get hurt and maybe we just decided to desperately aim balls at Lombardo's head?

Looking forward to some first-hand accounts.

    cheers,

Yes it would seem we reverted to 4-5-1 as Lombardo replaced Lammie at the end. I like Mitchell trying new combinations at the start but would have preferred a more offensive set up to try and get the tying goal.

Canada splits U-20 series with Scotland

    Canada Scotland (FINAL match report)

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – The Hyundai men’s U-20 national team presented by Yahoo! Canada split their two-game series with Scotland. The young Canucks lost 1:2 on Tuesday night in Victoria at the Royal Athletic Park after winning the first game 3:1 on Saturday night in Coquitlam.

“When you look at the whole series, it was good that we got a result against Scotland,” says Jaime Peters. “Now we need to build towards Argentina.”

These were the first two games in the Hyundai men’s U-20 tour presented by Yahoo! Canada. Canada’s next game will be 11 May against five-time world youth champions Argentina at the National Soccer Stadium in Toronto. More games will be played in Ottawa, Sherbrooke and Edmonton in June.

Neither side found the net in the first half, although Canada had some wonderful chances. Early in the second half, Scotland’s Ross Campbell opened the scoring with his first of two on the night. Shane Lammie scored for Canada in the 72nd minute, but Campbell put Scotland ahead for good just six minutes later.

“I saw it in the air, ran up and put my head on the ball,” says Lammie of Canada’s lone goal which came off a free kick. Lammie previously scored six times in 13 matches with the U-17 team, but this was his first goal in seven matches with the U-20 team.

The Hyundai men’s U-20 national team presented by Yahoo! Canada spent nearly two weeks together in British Columbia, first in Langley, then in Vancouver and Burnaby (with a quick side trip to Coquitlam for Saturday’s venue-changed match), and then Victoria. The Canadian breaks off tomorrow as players return to their club teams.

“To go into 2007 with a result against Brasil, Czech Republic and Scotland is massive,” says David Edgar. “We are looking forward to our match against Argentina.”

The Hyundai men’s U-20 national team presented by Yahoo! Canada will have another camp in April, although it will feature primarily North American-based players. A comprehensive group of players, from both North American and European teams, should be back together in May before the Argentina match. Their first game in the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 is Canada Day 1 July against Chile.

    That sponsorship reads really stupidly.

The tour should be sponsored (and referred to accordingly), not the frickin' team!

    Correction, it should be:

    Scotland 2 - Yahoo sponsored Hyundai 1

Actually sounds a bit like a Japanese club team but then at least they could add a fierce animal:

Scotland 2 - Yahoo sponsored Hyundai Tigers 1

    or how about

Scotland 2 - Yahoo sponsored Hyundai It's Going to be Huge Tigers 1

Hey, did you see the crowd at the spruced up Royal Athletic Park? Almost didn't recognize it. I wish they could keep it that way and host a USL 1 team down the road. Still one of the better venues in Canadian soccer.

It is all about the money. I don't really care how the CSA gets it.
