Caigy leaves Darlo Canada high and dry
"EX-CARLISLE United keeper Tony Caig is set to turn down the chance to return to British football with Darlington – to sign a new two-year deal with Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Canadian club, where fellow former Blues ace Peter Beardsley’s career took off, have been desperate to hang on to the 32-year-old Cumbrian whose heroics helped them win their first-ever United Soccer League title last season."

I'd say that Tony is thinking about his future. Moving to Vancouver was probably more of a family decision than a footballing one, so staying here makes a lot of sense.

I am sure if he were to get an offer from a Championship team with good prospective of being the starting keeper he would move on but Darlington is a mid table team in the 4th tier League 2. At that level of play/pay I think the decision between the Caps and Darlington at his age would be based mostly on where the best career opportunities and lifestyle are after his playing career.

Whitecaps goalkeeing coach Mike Toshak has taken a job with Houston Dynamo of MLS. That leaved the Whitecaps job open, could be filled by a playing coach.

This is from the first article posted:
“I’ll be goalkeeping coach for the first team and I’ll also be director of goalkeeping for the academy during the off-season, working with young keepers from 10-17.
