To summarize a question that is coming up yet again:
I explained this a while ago, but I'll do so one more time (but then that's it!)...quote:Mods, why did you guys let Beast back in?
The way that the registration system is currently set up, new posters are not "kept out" or "let in" by the mods. This is automatically handled by the forum, with some rudimentary security that has not stopped Beast from re-registering after being locked out. We can strengthen the registration process so that every new poster must be screened and approved by the admins. But there are problems with this: new posters would have to wait until we can get around to screening and approving them; some legitimate posters could be prevented from registering if we are unable to identify them as being legitimate; it's more work for us. Therefore, this is a more drastic action than what we already have in place — and of course it's not even foolproof. We've actually used this system before and it wasn't fun.
So is it worth limiting, perhaps preventing, access to the forum by new posters (not to mention create much more work for Jarrek and I) in order to keep Beast out? That depends on how much of a problem he really is. I think he wouldn't be so much of a problem if people who don't like him would just ignore him — please, really, if you think he has posted "garbage" that isn't worthy of a real response then don't respond just to tell him he has posted "garbage" or to call him names.
As for Beast, he is allowed to post even those comments that you may think are "garbage". What he cannot do is bait and spam, and he has been warned about this. Recently he has not caused problems in this regard, and I'd rather not take the more drastic action unless this situation changes.
[u]UPDATE - MAY 11, 2005</u>
In the last couple of days I have spoken to Jarrek about alternatives to what I posted above. He informed me that there might be another method that will not add any delay for new registrants and would not burden Jarrek and I as described above. However, it would also guarantee to block legitimate users from not only registering on the forum but even just accessing (ie. reading) the entire Voyageurs site (ie. not just the forum). Furthermore, the number of legitimate users who would be affected in this way would probably be larger compared to the first method described above, and could theoretically even include people who are already registered. And, of course, it's still not foolproof.
Beast has been reminded what he's doing wrong. I'd like to reiterate once more to everyone else what I've said dozens of times: just ignore Beast (or whoever else) if you think he's an idiot. (Why waste your time with someone you think is an idiot, anyway?) Your post prompts replies from Beast and other people and the whole thread deteriorates, which annoys everyone else. One or two posts from Beast aren't a big deal, but the ten that result when people reply to him are.

I agree 100%... it bothers me that the Voyageurs are becoming seen more and more as a closed group which belittles and/or attacks posters that don't conform with the 'group mind'.
We absolutely don't want people being turned away due to an overly strict screening process. I'd rather if we just dealt with issues case by case. Most of the time I just ignore the Beasts comments, much in the way I ignore the "Fire Yallop's Ass now!" stuff... or some of the anti-Pipe rants by Robert (unless they go against the rules of the board). They're all entitled to voice their opinions as long as they do it without baiting and flaming.
Honestly... some of these guys may be over the top on occaision, but they care enough about Canadian soccer to actually sit down and post something. I think a reality check is in order here. I'd rather debate the pros-cons of Canadian soccer with someone of opposite opinion than face any more of the comments from some of my "soccer savy" friends.. who basically told me San Marino had no business even bothering to PLAY Spain.. let alone have the thrill and honour of being drilled 5-0. He had a comment on the fact that I booked off work to go watch Canada-N. Ireland.. but he knows better than to be too disparaging.
soccer is unversal regardless, its a pity some dont view it that way!
It is a sad day for the Voyageurs. This ruling allows anyone to wield a sword to lock up any thread. Personally I can't stand the "Grandfather of all Canucks Abroad thread." However, I respect that many Voyageurs have put in much time and thought. I just don't go there. Do onto other as others do to you, apparently is not a Voyageurs' value, or else the stadium thread should be unlocked for it also contains much time and energy from many. Yes it contains some garbage but most of it is good, as do most threads.quote:Originally posted by algorithim

The mods who arbitrarily silence scoceline is:
The sensitive ones - 1
The controversial ones - 0
I don't know the Snitz forums but I know that in other same discussion boards, there are lots of mods with new options
One of them is to allow a registered user to ignore some specific people and, so, not see their messages
So, it could be interesting to see if it's available for this board : then, users who want it could make beast posts invisible
Well said. And everyone should use civil language. Fortunately most people do, but some occasionally forget.quote:Originally posted by DJT

Whats wrong with this forum. I agree that we need ignore and not reply to those who come here to spam. But what good is this forum if a Mod cannot delete a post.

Can it be any clearer what this this guy's intent is????
Therefore what value is there to allowing the messages? Oh and if you don't have enough MOD's. then let me Moderate?
