p/c help needed please

a mate of mine is having trouble with his p/c can anyone help thanks in advance.
This is what happens

Switches on goes to Internet Explorer,. Comes up Virgin (which is who he is with) but then it changes to something else and won't let him in.

Yep, spyware! You can buy spystopper software, try Jarrek's
ad-aware, or upgrade Zonealarm that can detect it and quarantine it.

I suggest that your friend may also have to change his IE6 settings
for blocking certain sites from pop-ups and cookies. I just had this
happen to my home notebook PC, and it's really annoying ...

Forget IE altogether.

Mozilla Firefox is the browser to use...and pop-ups are blocked without special downloads and spyware is all but gone.

I use AVG Anti-virus. It was free and i downloaded it off the net.

Another thing you can try is erase all of the cookies on your hard drive.

The latest version of IE has an automatic popup blocker as well.
