Well, Craig Forrest did predict the team to go all the way. But ya, aside from him, I think we all would've been content with the usual good effort and a first round exit. Canadian traiditon, baby.
I think that it was a great game between Canada and U.S. Even though Canada lost. I'm so proud of them for getting this far, and who would've thought they would get this far? Do you think Canada will win the next Wourl Cup? and what did you think of the game today? and who did you think was the best player?

I thought canada could have made it to the finals. They were up 1-0 in the semis and then blew it with what 15- 10 mins left.
The best player was Lang. Nice to see that she & Hooper were often physically beating up the US women - and deservedly so. There were more body-checks in that match that in a US-Canada women's hockey match. A shame that with the style Pellerud employs we got so tired & fizzled out in the 2nd half. He should have gotten Moscato on far, far, far earlier. She can keep possession, and if you can keep possession you make the other team tired.
I fully agree with you summary. Those early second half goals are a killer. Was it just me or Swiatek didn't look as sharp as before? If we put in Moscato so late, why not throw in Consolante or McLeod also instead of slow poke Wilkinson.quote:Originally posted by Gian-Luca

They should've dumped Abby Wambach on her @$$ a couple more times... she annoys me. Hoops shoulda slapped her after that dive in the box. Then she had the nerve to look at the ref for a penalty - sick.
I gotta say our ladies did a good job. They looked much better today against the team that dumped Sweden 3-1 than against Sweden, maybe they had less nerves and more fire in their bellies. Regardless they kept their shape and played their game. Even when the yanks were up 2-1 I thought we might still come back, we certainly had our chances. Unfortunately we missed a couple of bounces and the fatigue started to show.
I've heard a lot of people critique Pellerud for his long-ball tactics, but I think he's working with what he's got. Theses are some young girls still. Every time I see Lang gallop down the flank she looks like there's as much chance of her tripping over her own legs than getting tackled. It's called being 16. A few more years of conditioning and training and this team will challenge anyone.
Agreed. That was pathetic, almost as pathetic as the booing of the crowd when they saw the replay on the in-house video screens. She ran into Hooper.quote:Originally posted by strobe_z

... and in that regard, the free kick that was given after the first half shoulder collision between Wambach and Hooper was also a poor call. The replay clearly showed Hooper in direct pursuit of the ball with Wambach coming in from the side with her shoulder on Hooper and then crumpling to the ground. It wasn't a dive but it wasn't a Hooper foul either. If anything it was a 50-50 ball but the ref. went with the crowd.
Ah yes, the advantage of playing at home.

The US won and deservedly so. We outplayed Canada. Admittedly Canada lost due to the US' superior tactics, rather than playing ability. I just hope this rivalry can carry over to the men's senior level. Mexico sucks as a rival because they are classless thugs. I'd love a good North American derby.
Wambach.
Think I've written here or there how much I approve of the sportsmenship the ladies have displayed in every game I've seen. A very good example to the men. Well, some of them.
And then yesterday, Wambach. Bit overdone, that turkey, you might say.
Damn, if Lang would've nailed that one that found the post! Bunker down for a while, catch your breath and go at them again.
Go show both sides. Americans got no less than they deserved.
Hey, I was with Craig. I wasn't disappointed by any means, though, and I congratulate our team for doing so well. But I know they won't be satisfied until they've won it outright, and I'll be saying "I told you so" when they do.quote:Originally posted by JayWay
