    Default CPSL Week 14

    [u]This post by Rocket Robin</u>

Well not a good start for action this week. London is the only CPSL team I haven't see this year. Maybe Wednesday against Toronto Supra I'll catch them.

I would imagine that the season will have to be extended because of all the games that have been cancelled over the past few weeks.

I'm not surprised this game is cancelled. I was thinking of going to it but didn't want to make definite plans because I thought blackouts or fears of them would lead to a cancellation. Robin, thanks for the heads-up.

Sigma, yeah, I said the same thing in the Week 13 thread. By my count this is the 12th game that needs to be made up.

The Ottawa Wizards will be playing an exhibition game on Saturday vs Ottawa club all-stars (premier division I believe).... should be a good game.

Oh yeah, the game takes place at Terry Fox.

On Friday, Toronto Croatia vs. Durham is OFF, but London vs. Mississauga is ON.

The two scheduled weekend games are both in the GTA, but they will kick off in the afternoon, so power for lights won't be an issue and the games will go ahead.

The CPSL claims that there have been 12 games postponed. However, this counts only those postponed in the last week. There were 2 others postponed before that.

    From the CPSL site:

TORONTO—Friday-August 22--One game is on in the Canadian Professional Soccer League tonight and the other one is off.

The London City vs. Mississauga Olympians game scheduled for Cove Road in London will be played, but the Toronto Croatia vs. Durham Flames clash due to take place under floodlights at Memorial Park in Mississauga, has been postponed while that city continues to encourage power conservation

Two games scheduled over the weekend, Vaughan Sun Devils vs. Laval Dynamites at Dufferin Clark on Saturday at 2 and the Brampton Hitmen home game also against Les Dynamites, a 4 pm kickoff at Victoria Park, will both be played.

This brings to 12 the number of CPSL games postponed and the list continues to be available here.

The game between Hamilton Thunder and St. Catharines Roma Wolves was the first to be hit and was called off at Brian Timmis Stadium on Thursday,August 14, two hours after the power disruption occured.

This was followed by the postponement of the next night’s London City vs. Toronto Croatia game at Cove Road in London.

Both games scheduled for Saturday, August 16 were then postponed. They were the Vaughan Sun Devils vs. Ottawa Wizards game set for Dufferin Clark at 2 pm and the Durham Flames vs. Laval Dynamites encounter scheduled for the Civic Stadium in Oshawa at 7 pm.

All four games scheduled for Sunday, August 17 were then called off —the Toronto Supra vs. Ottawa Wizards Eastern Conference showdown arranged for Victoria Park in Brampton at 2 pm was scrubbed, and the St. Catharines Wolves vs. Laval Dynamites set for Club Roma in St. Catharines, also a 2 o’clock kickoff.

The two evening games, Metro Lions vs.Hamilton Thunder listed for 6 p.m. at Birchmount Stadium and Brampton Hitmen vs. Mississauga Olympians, newly scheduled for an 8 pm kickoff at Victoria Park in Brampton, also off.

League Administrator Stan Adamson cited a number of reasons for so many postponements, including the inability of a hotel to guarantee accommodation of visiting team Ottawa Wizards despite their long-standing reservations.

“There is concern too that floodlights may cut out during periods of conserving power and the reluctance of municipalities to allow afternoon events to go on during a period of recovery,” he explained.

“They, understandably, don’t want to open buildings with dressing rooms for the next 24 to 48 hours,” he said.

Amateur soccer has been hard hit also, with many games in the Ontario Soccer League and other leagues called off.

The following summarizes all games in the Canadian Professional Soccer League postponed as a result of the power disruption:

Thursday, August 14: Hamilton Thunder vs. St. Catharines Roma Wolves

Friday, August 15: London City vs. Toronto Croatia

Saturday, August 16: Vaughan Sun Devils vs. Ottawa Wizards

Saturday, August 16: Durham Flames vs. Laval Dynamites

Sunday, August 17: Metro Lions vs. Hamilton Thunder

Sunday, August 17: Toronto Supra vs. Ottawa Wizards

Sunday, August 17: St. Catharines Wolves vs. Laval Dynamites

Sunday, August 17: Brampton Hitmen vs. Mississauga Olympians

Monday, August 18: North York Astros vs. London City

Wednesday, August 20: Toronto Supra vs. London City

Wednesday, August 20: Toronto Croatia vs. Metro Lions

Friday, August 22: Toronto Croatia vs. Durham Flames
