This is a Jeux Canada Games year ... I almost forgot. Interesting the event is a 1995 birth year (U18?). I'm a fan of this type of system of getting the elite players together for some serious competition. Shame it only happens every 4 years.

The first thing that I'm noticed in my tour around the Provincial Challenge Cup Senior Leagues is the presence of the CG teams in NL, NS, NB & PE playing with the grown men and not getting shut out. Some wins, some goal scorers and some experience for defenders.

But, that's where it seems to end. QC, ON, MB all seem to have selection camps ... SK is only fielding 2 U18 teams in their provincial league (senior men? HUSA Alumni ... again?) AB & BC selection camps also?

Listening to some of the pundits recently talk about the young boys playing against men (CSL old or new) greatly advanced their soccer learning curve and soccer IQ. So, I guess, I couple of questions. Has Atlantic Canada got it wrong? Are they getting these teams into the senior men's leagues because there is nothing else. Why are there not U18 or U20 teams in the senior men's leagues all across the country? Would this not be a good option for Academies?

Seriously, the CSA wants some sort of National D-3 league, this is another source of teams to fill these spots. The provinces are funding these teams to a degree already so why not make it a longer term endeavor rather than a once every four years task?

More protests about Copa and transit fare increases in Brazil.
Will be interesting to see if it intensifys during the Confederations cup heading to the final.

The smaller cities are now getting involved, areas where the MP are less ...um restrained, so violence may well occur on the streets.

Day one of the UEFA 'A' licence (part 2) was broken up into four different lectures. To say that there was a lot of information to process would be an understatement of enormous proportions.

The first lecture, which ran from 9:30am-12:30pm was delivered by Billy Dixon, a performance coach from Portadown, NI. Billy has worked with various national football federations, Premier League clubs, Irish Rugby, an F1 champion, major media outlets and various corporate clients.

He spoke about confidence, and explained the concept that confidence is very much a transient characteristic. When players suffer a dip in form, it isn't that they lose their ability; they lose their confidence...<snip>

Seems that some of our most important players will be on the move this summer. Isolated bits of chatter exist in different posts but wanted to consolidate it here. Apologies for Simeon's name change. It just felt right. I'd like to start us off with Haber speculation:

Stevenage striker Marcus Haber is being tracked by Rangers and Yeovil Town, according to reports on Wednesday.

The Canada international, who signed a two-year deal when he joined the Hertfordshire club in 2012, scored seven goals in their League One campaign.

Haber, 24, joined Stevenage on a free transfer after a year with St Johnstone, and now a potential return to Scotland could be on the cards.

Ally McCoist is looking to bolster his squad following their promotion from Scottish Division Three, but Yeovil are also keen to improve their options after their move into the Championship via the play-offs.

Both clubs are thought to have made enquiries about Haber, who has made five international appearances.

Result and details of the Saturday June 15, 2013
W-League game between Toronto Lady Lynx and
K-W United played at Centennial Stadium in
Etobicoke at 6:00pm.

16 min...TLL Nicole Waters GOAL...Waters blasts
20 yard freekick from down middle to right and
goalie Emma Knuso dives to right and gets a piece
of it with her hands but the momentum spins the
ball over them and into the right corner of the net.

73 min...TLL Taylor MacIver GOAL...TLL Cathryn Rogers
chips 18 yard shot that goalie bats down just under
the bar. MacIver charges in and knocks the ball
into the net from 1 yard with her hip or chest
as goalie didn't have possession. (that was the ruling
after the referee gives a short chat to the K-W players
surrounding him).

Final Score:.......Toronto Lady Lynx........2......
......K-W United......0.......

Attendance was about 75 on this warm day with a bright
sun in the west.

Stephanie Bukovec earned the shutout for the Lady Lynx.
She had very little to do except come forward to pick
up the odd cross or through ball.

K-W had far too many offsides and balls rolled too fast
for the articial turf that rolled out of play.

Referee Sahraei Saman gave out one Yellow card to each
team that I counted in a game that was rough at times.

Best non scoring chances of the match were at 20 minutes
when TLL Jordyn Listro received a short pass from TLL Oni
Bernard and one-touched a 10 yard shot up the middle that
the goalie sprawled to catch as both TLL players were
covered by defenders. 62 minutes had TLL Ashley Lawrence
take an 18 yard shot from the right that was deflected
and just missed the top left corner of the net. 68 minutes
had TLL Jordyn Listro make a long rush on the left and
roll a cross that the goalie dived forward to smother
preventing a TLL player from a tap-in from 5 yards.
70 minutes had TLL Listro cross from 22 yards on the left
and TLL Lawrence got away a 12 yard shot that the goalie
partially blocked at 5 yards and a defender cleared the ball
from 2 yards.

Lady Lynx were the home team but they had only five subs
against K-W's seven. Defender Kadesha Buchanan was
called up for the Canadian national team and will play
against Germany later this week to earn her second cap.
Defender Rachel Melhado who was captain of the Lady Lynx
for their game earlier this month against London
Gryphons is scheduled to earn her first senior cap
in that Germany game was also not on today's roster.

Despite missing these defenders, the line of Kayla Alfonso,
Sarah Reynolds, Noelle Leon-Palmer and Olivia
Lukasewich minimized the K-W scoring chances.

K-W (for the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo) had
forward Adriene Lischke (she played for the Lady Lynx
up to 2009) as their forward threat. Defender Leticia
Skeete played for the Lady Lynx in their home
opener this year against Laval on May 26th.

The K-W team (men's and women's) relocated from
Hamilton last year.

Lady Lynx next home game is Wednesday July 3rd at 3:30pm
also against K-W United.
