Hi!

We will be on holiday in Canada during the last part of FIFA World Cup 2010.
Do you know a good place for watching the games in Montreal and Toronto?
Is there any public viewing at all?

Thanks for your help!
Kai

Greeting Kai,

For Toronto there will be nurmerous places to attend. Almost every pub will be broadcasting the matches no matter which part of the City you will be in, however, as a visitor, I recommend hitting Toronto's College Street, home of the Little Italy neighbourhood. http://www.littleitalyintoronto.ca/ or Danforth Ave, which is their Greektown http://www.greektowntoronto.com/ These places will have good crowds regardless of the country playing and you need to get there early to sit in on one of the outdoor patios and watch the match.

Obviously, if you want to cheer for a specific country with fellow supporters, then go to a neighbourhood (we have almost every culture represented) or pub that backs your specific team. Keep in mind, because of the time difference between South Africa and Toronto, you'll want to make sure you go to an area that will be fun and packed with die hard fans. There are tonnes of pubs to choose, from, one of my favorites is http://www.thefootballfactory.ca/ just west of the downtown core. OR Brazen Head Irish Pub http://www.brazenhead.ca/ which is my hang, prior to TFC home matches.

If you want to catch a Toronto FC home game or an Montreal Impact home game while your visiting, let me know as I could probably get you some tickets.

Anyhow, depending on your dates in Toronto, shoot me a message and perhaps we can meet up. Good luck.

Hi Scorpio!

that sounds much better than I expected! I thought only few folks are interested in soccer and nobody in Canada will notice the World Cup 2010. But luckily I was wrong :-)

Thanks for your detailed answer.
See you in Toronto!

Yes, even if we do not perform well internationally and domestically, people are very interested in the World Cup! For Montreal, I suggest walking on St. Laurent street, around Rachel and Mont-Royal intersections. There are many bars/cafés that will broadcast games, but this place will probably be Portugese during WC so if you dislike Portugal, maybe not the best idea to go there. Mont-Royal Avenue cafés will also probably show the games (east of St. Laurent). You can try Downtown, around the McGill and Peel subway stations for a lot of people and a good atmosphere for the finals.

Of course there is also Little Italy which if you cheer for the Italian squad is probably the best place to go.

Sorry to not give any specific recommendations, but if you go to these areas you are bound to find something that suits your tastes, if you arrive early that is. Bon voyage!

Montreal: all over the place, but St-Laurent above des Pins is a good bet.

The final should be broadcast on giant screen at Parc Jean-Drapeau.

Montreal : on Sainte-Catherine Street ( Downtown ) between McGill and Atwater subway stations , you'll find a lot of pubs and cafés .
I am pretty sure they will show every world cup match .. I don't remember the names , but there are 2 or 3 pubs / cafés on Sainte-Catherine street , between Saint-Mathieu Street and Dufort Street ( near Provigo shopping center )
