FWIW, I just replayed before the goal. To me, it appears quite clear that the ball that Montreal tried to play up the wing did not go out of bounds. This led to a turnover, which directly led to the goal within 30 seconds.

03-05-2009, 09:59 PM
Wow, what a half! Santos gift wraps the first Montreal goal. Who was the midfielder passing to? Good on Brown to pounce on the loose ball. I was surprised Gjertsen passed the ball into the middle when it looked like he had a great shot opportunity. It's OK to be unselfish, but that was a clear shooting opportunity. They got the goal anyway. So after a shakey start Montreal seems to have this game (and a spot in the semi's) wrapped up.

The lads will be okay. Looks like they've each got their own security guard in the corner there.

If Roberto Brown's goal isn't taken away as an Own Goal before the end of the match he can count himself lucky. I've been watching pro-football since the very early '80s and that back pass ranks as one of the worse ever. In the top 1% for sure. Hooooly crap.

Sanchez comes up with a hamstring.

Cool goal by Eddie.

LeRoux out (that left side is getting killed out there).

Geezus. The stars are aligning.

I_AM_CANADIAN
03-05-2009, 10:01 PM
This is just something else...

This has been a much better game than last week's in my opinion. Montreal are more fit, and I think Santos are taking it more seriously now they're down, which I think makes for a better match. Although Santos' defence is a bit on the brutal side, as both Montreal goals showed.

Hey, for a CONCACAF official, this guy has been pretty impartial and hasn't flubbed many decisions. I'd take him over Archundia any day of the week, anyway.

Remember the ref for Montreal's away leg against Real Esteli? The second half of that match ended up being simply bizarre.

Wow what a second half? The Impact had little impact. De Vos at 3-2 was giving check marks for Montreal's "disciplined defending" They gave up three goals at that point, ended up giving 5 on the night. Talk about foot-in-mouth. Props to Montreal for giving a good run, and doing the USL proud. They could have and should have done so much more. Montreal is getting into a bad habit of losing these second leg games. Like against Vancouver in the USL semi-final. Unlike most USL clubs they are ready to go now, and have to wait a month before they take advantage of their pre-season form. Hopefully that doesn't work against them.

Good luck to Puerto Rico.

To be fair Santos were passing like a machine all night. They just managed to click in the second half way too many times. That is what we need to aspire to. When our teams can pass like that and have that touch on the ball we will be on par.

There is no defense to great passing except to keep the ball away from them. It looked like Montreal just ran out of gas in the second half.

Congrats to the Impact on a great run and to Santos for a great comeback.

Well, that would've been a complete travesty because that a clear dive. More chance to get a yellow for it than a PK.

I'm wondering if the last goal was offside (the replay didn't showed the positionning at the moment of the pass, so I guess he was offside). Anyways, Brillant bodycheck should've been a pk seconds earlier...

For a club which has at best a 3 million dollar annual budget THAT has to be harsh.

Now the coaching and support staff at the Impact will have their hands FULL. First they need to shakeup the guys. I happened OK it's shiitty but we will learn from the mistakes. They will need to reorganise themselves and learn to play not 30/60/90minutes but 90+minutes. They will need to build their psyche up before the season and V-cup run start. I believe they can do it, I don't forsee any chnages in the coaching staff but maybe a few trades in players? My brother in law coaches a U-16 satellite team to J. That's funny cause we were saying exactly that int he FF in TO.

Jason just lost the game cause he said that.

And... well fck me... I should be crashing at Grizzly's apartment drunk for the semis.

Fck.

I don't know why, but I'm watching it again on the Maritime CBC.

So depressing...I really feel for the Impact supporters and especially those who went down there to watch it.

This loss is honestly more painful than the entire WCQ. I'm in complete shock, 4 greating stoppage minutes was not warrented. I don't know what to say I'm too depressed at this point, this honestly is more painful than any other loss ever experience in Canadian football.

I personally would like to blame Jason De Vos for saying the Impact were through. OK with all humor aside now I think I'm going and cry myself to sleep..... or cut myself.
I agree on the stoppage time, I have no idea where the four minutes came from. There were hardly any lengthy stoppages, unless you include Santos players moaning at the ref.

Also, I'm a bit reluctant to visit the RPB forum at the moment. Bound to be some immature people mouthing off. As, you know, people there are less about country over club than we on here are...

I really hope not too much fingers were pointed. I hope if things were said then Grande and Pizzolitto had a team meeting after with a positive vibe. It would really suck if this were to poison Saputo's "family atmosphere". We have to get back on the horse.

There might be some immature idiots. But I was at a bar tonight with lots of RPB and USector people out to see a game.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying everyone there is against Montreal. I know quite a few on there were pulling for them.

There are a few though who are on the immature side, and unfortunately, they're always the loudest.
