FORT LAUDERDALE - The Montreal Impact tied the Honduran national team (ranked 52nd in the world) 1-1, Sunday, in a pre-season match which took place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The game was a last-minute addition to the pre-season training schedule, seeing that the Honduran national squad was also in Florida.

Impact forward Fabian Dawkins scored the tying goal with less than 10 minutes to play on a breakaway, with Charles Gbeke preparing the goal. Honduras previously opened the score early in the 4th minute.

“I’m happy with this first result because we played very well technically,” said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. “We created many scoring chances throughout the game. Despite the fact that we have only been training together for 10 days, we stood our ground.”

De Santis fielded two different starting line-ups for each of the two halves. Impact goalkeeper Andrew Weber started the first half and Matt Jordan played the second.

The Impact will play its next pre-season game this Thursday, March 29, against the Rochester Raging Rhinos. Montreal will then face the Miami FC on March 30 and April 3.

Is this the first mention of Gbeke with the Impact this year? Last year he played for Rochester. Could the Impact actually be signing not only a Canadian but a Montrealais?

Charles Gbeke...the most hopeless, over-rated yellow card foul magnet in the history of Canadian Soccer.

I agree that it is a good result for the Impact, but I am shocked that the MNT did not get in on this? Oh well.

This was a ghetto friendly between two Honduran internationals.

Anybody know what the deal with Di Ioia is? He was at the beginning of the U-20 camp and participated in the warmup game against Trinity Western University but then wasn't around for either of the Scotland games. Now I see that he was back with the Impact. Did the Impact not give him permission to stay for the whole trip? Did Mitchell send him away from the camp? Is there any info on this?

I'm guessing the Impact wanted him in camp.
