Have the kick-off times of the games been announced?
I'm aware of dates and locations.
If I knew the k.o. times I can decide whether I'll go to more than one venue.

If it is anything like the U19 womens WC I remember that the double headers in Burnaby were at 4pm and 7pm.

Later times than 4-7 might make sense for this tounament which should rely on a bigger fan base.

In ottawa the double headers will likely be 7 and 9.

I don't know if any sporting event in Canada starts later than 8pm local time.

Such as?

For stadium sports, the latest I've ever seen in Montreal was 8pm for some Impact games.

Otherwise it has been 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 7:30pm.

Evening starts would make more sense in the heat of July. There are two games scheduled for Toronto on Sunday July 8, the same day as the annual auto race at Exhibition Place. Since the track runs beside the stadium, I assume the games wouldn't start until after the race is over. The noise and fences closing off areas near the track would be a problem, and I doubt the race promoters will be eager to let as many as 20,000 people have free admission.

I suspect that its going to depend on the demand from europe. If there is such a demand ( televison etc), then I am afraid it will all be afternoon games. As I recall USA 94 games were played mostly in the afternoon. But the WYC is not the WC so I am hoping that some of the games in my ticket package wont go to waste because of having to go to work.

CBC and FIFA are currently in discussions on the kick off times. The likely time for nighttime double headers will be 5:30 and 8:00 PM

I guess they want it to finish by 10pm.

I'd much rather 6pm and 8:30pm.

Since you have a chunk of youth players going to these games as a way their clubs might "inspire" them, buying up big packages as well, it is logical that a game should not end that late.

Add that to the factor of wanting to attract a bit of tv interest, at least make it a bit easier to sell. Though I think that rarely are you going to get a big tv audience anywhere for a tournament like this until your team is in quarter finals or even semis maybe. I know folks in Spain would watch, but mainly a semi vs. strong opponent and a final, the early rounds would be filler. I recall watching the Olympic final vs. Cameroon, or the U-19 final Spain won in Nigeria, or the final they lost in UAEmirates, also watched the U-17 final from Finland. So I am talking about a strong youth side in a football crazy country, and even then apart from the final two games you are not really going to get any buzz.

Do you have to bring an example from Spain in every one of your post?

There's a big difference between power soccer countries and Canada when hosting an event like that. People in soccer countries will see high level soccer almost everydays, but here we don't have that luxury. This tournament will be for a lots of canadians the first time they can watch very good caliber of soccer and that's why even the first round games might be well attended and followed by the general public.
