View Full Version : The nothingness of Canadian soccer.

What's the most important/interesting thing happening in the world of Canadian soccer this week. While 32 countries around the world are eagerly a waiting the World Cup fate on Friday, fans in Europe have the Champions League, and fans around the world all have their domestic leagues to enjoy, what does the CSA offer Canadian fans during the holiday season? Canada's governing soccer body is silent on state funded stadium deal. Is no news good news? Have contractors been asked to bid for the project, or has somebody's Liberal buddy been awarded the job already? Since most of the funding for the stadium is to come from Canadian taxpayers, will we be kept informed on the progress of the project? Has MLSE and the MLS finalized the number of Canadians a Toronto roster could carry?

Gotta agree with how bleak the Canadian scene is. How was US women's college soccer is the main soccer story of the last two weeks. Who could possibly care?

That photo really really does sum it up, Soap. The legion of Canadian soccer scene put to sleep by the product promoted by the CSA. If your a soccer fan in Canada right now, then you have to watch non-Canadian countries, non-Canadian teams, and non-Canadian players perform. And you know what my friend, next week is going to be the same story. Kevan Pipe = Boring. Maybe Kevan satisfies your soccer appetite, but when it comes to Canadian soccer right now I'm pretty bored with the nothingness.
Maybe the CSA should stage a tournament.
I know that an outdoor event in Winnipeg would go over really great at this time of year.

Maybe the CSA could set up a, you know, league. ;)

Fixed.
What is a 'legion of Canadian soccer scene' anyway?

Should have read, legion of Canadian soccer fans, and no, Winnipeg in December would not work well for hosting a soccer match. However, Canada does own a little corner on the south coast of British Columbia where outdoor soccer is possible year round. Can you magazine that Rudi? Now I know that more than likely does little more for the rest of the country then a match in Luxembourgh, but the cost should be reletively low for gathering a group of young players from across Canada who might be eligable to represent Canada at the 2007 WYCs for two or three internationals during the winter months against an American or Mexican opponent. During the spring, summer and fall matches of this nature could be staged in other parts of the country. It might even be remotely possible that one of those bums filling a seat at the CSA could arrange for television coverage and sponsorship dollars to do so. But I seriously doubt it, because apparently they all have their hands full working with MLSE and the MLS trying to get taxpayer dollars to start their joint venture. What is the CSA's priority? A stadium for the WYCs or a stadium for the MLS? If their serious about the WYCs and how Canada will fare when hosting this opportunity of a lifetime tournament, then why is the latest news on their webpage featuring the nobody gives a zhit about Franchophone games.
Just an idea. Although you guys could be right about a Canadian league in December. That sort of thinking plays right into Kevan's hand YDFs (clue, YDFs has nothing to do with Youth Development Friendlies).

If you'd bothered to read that news, you'd notice that the players on that team are all 18 years old or younger, and they're all non-pro based U-20 candidates for the 2007.
But I guess it's just easier to bitch about the same thing every day rather than looking into these kinds of things.
