Whoops!!
Bit of a pothole under that back foot.
Pity that. If that goal was a girl she'd be too ugly to date.
P.S. Just got in. Hey, chearleaders:D[:p]! Four of them. Is that Tim Howard? Man, he's the best. Gets better with age.

Geez, Barclay's looking good to net one. Twice with the outside of the right foot, once for a nice save.
Nice little go on about the Voyageur's Cup. Whoo hoo!!!

Vencello (?) nets a nice one with the outside of the left foot. Good shot from a dangerous area. Too much space, too much time.
Where's Zagar? Wimble gets a cheap one! Serves Toronto right.
Did I call Dick, Tim? so I did. Bad Cheeta.
Calgary was outshot badly but hung in. Piss poor decision by the referee on the professional foul on speedy Fraser. It seems Calgary never gets any breaks. I missed the opening minutes. Where was Nick Zuniga???
Should add that it was a well deserved win by the Lynx. They owned the first half and that 2nd goal was terrific.

Result of the Friday August 29, 2003 A-League game between Toronto Lynx and Team Calgary played at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke at 8:00pm.
15 min...Lynx Sebastian Barclay GOAL...Barclay dekes falling goalie David Weibenga who'd turned it over 10 yards out on left and Barclay walks ball into net.
18 min...Calgary replace goalie by bringing in Eric Kenas.
62 min...Lynx Mauricio Vincello GOAL...Lynx David DiPlacido taps ball to Vincello who blasts 25 yard shot from left that bends to hit right goalpost and deflect into net. World class goal!
64 min...Team Calgary Shaun Wimble GOAL...Wimble's 30 yard freekick is into left side of net as goalie Theo Zagar shuffles over too late.
Final Score:..................Toronto Lynx...............2.............Team Calgary.......................1...................
Attendance was announced as 3216 on this warm night. This was a big crowd with most of the seats in the stands being filled and fans now taking positions on the east hill. Good marketing to fill the stands for these two also-ran teams. This game was broadcast on Fox SportsWorld with the cameras on the east side so the crowd would be seen by the folks at home.
Lynx outshot Calgary 10-0 in the first half and something like 14-2 for the game but many shots were off target. The Lynx defender put up a tough blanket around their box and the defenders blocked almost every shot that Team Calgary tried. With them only carrying only four subs including the goaltender, their choices were limited much like the Lynx when they had injury and suspensions problems in the last few weeks. Midfielder Robbie Aristodemo played his first game with the Lynx in many weeks.
Lynx Barclay should have put this game away in injury time of the 1st half when Jonathan Westmaas puts a short cross from left that finds Barclay all alone in box but his quick shot from 7 yards is wide right. He pulled his shirt over his head in shame.
The halftime entertainment included their annual Mascot game with the Lynxster acting as the referee. New this year was Rocky from the new IHL hockey team Toronto Roadrunners.
The team presented three Lynx players with awards for playing in their 100th game for the team. This year's recipients were Theo Zagar, Joe Mattacchione (tonight in street clothes), and Adrian Serioux.
With this win the Lynx jump to the top of the Voyageurs Cup standings. The competition among the Canadian A-League teams finishes with Team Calgary playing Montreal Impact in Montreal on Sunday. The Impact have to win and I'm guessing a 6-0 score because the Impact would put their scoring chances away. Impact lost their game tonight 2-0 against Virginia Beach Mariners who play the Lynx in the season ending game Sunday at 6:00pm.

Shots-at count sounds about right. Looks worse on paper, though. Seemed to be a bit of a gail blowing out there so that must have helped and hindered all at once.
Easy to see what the Toronto bunch are complaining about. Pitch certainly had a sort of "texture" to it.

Yeah, those of us at the match thought for sure the Ref was going to pull out the red on Serioux for his foul on Fraser's breakaway. I thought Fraser looked the best Calgary player & am not entirely convinced the disallowed goal was the right call (though difficult to see from my angle, without the benefit of reply) - why didn't he start?
Apparently Tommy Wheeldon Sr. conceded to Lynx coach Peter Pinizotto that Toronto's stadium & field is the worst in the league. And you Calgary fans probably thought you had the annual "Worst Soccer Stadium in Canada Award" all locked up this year, but Toronto took it home for the second year running.
Actually there were 5 cheerleaders tonight, almost as many Ultras that were in attendance. After they spent much of the match handing out free merchandise from sponsors, we almost managed to convince them to throw a free large table (that was going to be used for Lynx players signing autographs) into the crowd, but they declined to do so.
It was a strange night, the half-time show featured a soccer game between all the city's mascots, including the return of one who looked like Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, but whose real name was George the Gnome or something. Regardless, he responded to the name "Gandalf" by giving us a friendly wave (similarly, Nikola Vijnevic of the Lynx happily responded to us calling him "Begbie" for the first time today, so called because he looks like actor Robert Carlyle), but then during the mascot soccer game Gandalf's head accidentally fell off revealing him to be a woman, and all of the other mascots proceeded to tackle her to the ground upon discovering Gandalf's true gender. Then after the mascot half-time match the Lynxster (the Lynx mascot) surprised us all by using the F-word for the first time in our presence, not something you expect cuddly, loveable mascots to say. Perhaps the Lynxster was upset that he didn't get to jump on Gandalf the way the other male mascots did.
Then at the Pub after the match I nearly backed over Zagar's girlfriend with my car, as she seemed reluctant to move despite given ample warning by my brake lights. But in the end I didn't hit her. This was only a few minutes after Free Kick gave his second, highly-animated visual demonstration of the night as to why he didn't like the format of this board very much (a performance that would have made most German mime expressionists jealous), while some guy with tatoos all over his body was sleeping standing up & leaning against my car, while waiting for Free Kick to drive him, Grasshopper & Jayway home.
Let us not say that the Lynx matches aren't in some way interesting!
