Canada lost 4-1 at Germany, which would probably explain why we went down.

On the other hand you never know - the US was just eliminated from the Confederations Cup after losing twice & drawing 0-0 with a team ranked lower than they are - and they went up two spots to #9 overall.

Ziv, if you want to be welcomed on this board and talk about football that is fine, but your image was not appropriate (for those who didn't see it, take my word). I am glad you decided to take it off.

People on this board are fair to all religions and backgrounds, and ocassionally post on politics. But the extreme or provocative posts will and should be deleted, as they distract us from what is really interesting: the game.

Also: if you are thinking about coming to Canada to play seriously you might want to consider the fact that you will find teammates from all backgrounds, including Arabic and Muslim. If you are not ready for a multi-cultural society and multi-ethnic football you should perhaps reconsider. That also means maybe finding people who think some of those you admire to be criminals as well. If you can't deal with that, perhaps you won't feel comfortable in a place like Canada.

When you read the rankings carefully maybe 70th is not that bad. We must be the only Nation that does not have a National League. Every other Nation above us has a league where players play consistently.
This is 2003 and we have actually gone backwards in terms of the sport. No National League, No Stadium in Ottawa, Toronto or BC, No identity for our young players, no youth academy like Senegal, USA, Costa Rica etc. What do we really expect?

Yes, I'm sure that the CSA will take this as a wakeup call and take immediate and decisive action. :)

Kidding, of course; what you say is true. In fact it makes our successes--even our short-term successes, like the goal against Germany--that much sweeter. But then again, it's so very, very depressing...

I am glad you decided to take it off.Actually, while he agreed to take it off, he didn't actually do it yet, so I did it myself. I agree with you Jeffrey, except for some reason the image was not appearing for me so I didn't take action until I investigated further, otherwise I'd probably have done so earlier.

depressing is definitly the right word if we look at a goal as being a success

I think Canada is probably the best nation without a league. Things aren't as bad as they seem though. Through Fox Sports World I have gotten a chance to watch a bunch of matches. I have been impressed by the level of play. The games are entertaining and some real skill and flair is starting to be shown. Games between top teams resemble MLS level quality. I think teams like Charleston, Rochester, Vancover, and Montrel could compete in MLS with 4-5 quality additions.

Don't really give the FIFA rankings that much thought, but since I'm blitzed and responding to all the other posts what the hell.

Is there really that much difference between oh, say 30th spot and 70th? To me, there is that "A" group of nations who are for all means and effects are traditional international powerhouses as it were. The "B" group of damned good sides who'll trouble the A-Group, snatch a few wins on merit agaist them now and again, and generaly beat the "C" group sides if they're on their game. And the "D" group of nations who'll never, ever, win anything except an off match against a "C" group side were all 11 starters were hung over and had travelled 278 1/2 hours to get to the "D" groups home pitch (which just happened to be a lama pasture at 10,000 foots above sea level).

That "C" group to which I believe Canada belongs (and Isreal) is a pretty damned big group and the difference between the top sides and the bottom sides in that envelope is pretty small. Can be measured in the health, form, and availablity of their small pool of quality players during any given week, month, whatever.

And yeah, Canada should be in the bottom rung of my "C" group currently just 'cause we're going through some injury woes, have a goalkeeping question, and no available strikers. Isreal's 1st team would likely beat our 1st team pretty regularily these days. So your lads are ranked higher. Ask me again in 6 months.

Cheeta, I like it. However, I'm wondering if there should be an "E" group as well.

Ohh Geezus! I guess there could be. But do they play football?

Lets see now,,,. Vatican City? Easter Island? Greenland's national team if they ever achieve independence? How about 95% of the Oceania Confederation?
