Sportsnet will be showing the Costa Rica game, July 12, live at 1:00 pm (et) in all regions. There is nothing on their site regarding the Cuba game, or subsequent games should we make the next round.

At the time I don't think he said anything about the Cuba game.

I'm also eager to see if FSWC will pick up other Gold Cup games like they did last year --- it really makes it feel more like a tournament when you get to see a bunch of games.

Entirely agree. This was sorely missing in the last confederations cup, the WYC, and and all the Gold Cups so far. I understand that by showing the other games the networks are taking a hit $$$ wise on matches that might not even attract many die-hard soccer fans or even people on this board. But on the other hand by only showing and discussing canada's games you are doing nothing to promote the tournament which in the long term hurts viewerships since casual observers will gradually see less significance in the matches. This is how the World cup became so big in canada from a viewship standpoint.

All that might be needed to resolve this dilema might be to show at least two other big games.

I just noticed that Sportsnet lists both the Costa Rica and Cuba games as "(women)"!

Has the mens team become so low profile that people automatically think that any soccer international involving Canada must be the women's team?

Yes, so many of my non-soccermad friends now think of Canadian Soccer as being the women because of their great accomplishments, especially here in Edmonton. They certainly deserve the recognition. I'm envious of Central Canada and Vancouver for the opportunity to see some regular first-rate woman's action. Perhaps with another good showing in the Gold Cup (and some media atention, how are we going to start some fires under those guys?) the other side of the occaison will rise to the Canadian consciousness. Haven't seen any commercials on Sportsnet about the GC, you'ld think it would be in there interest to raise some interest.
