"Peschisolido Leads Blades To Cardiff

Paul Peschisolido came on as a substitute in extra time and scored with 10 minutes left to give Sheffield United a 3-2 lead in the second leg of their playoff with Nottingham Forest. United went on to win 4-3 and advance to the First Division playoff final against Wolves in Cardiff on May 26.

Peschisolido's goal was the highlight of the game. He gathered the ball near the top of the box and proceeded to dribble inside and out defenders before sliding the ball into the near post to set off huge celebrations.

Canadian international Jim Brennan played 120 minutes for Forest who had built a 2-0 lead and seemed on the verge of going through."

Pesch still has it.Look forward to seeing him come off the bench to work his magic in Cardiff.Holger has to get him back playing for Canada. And soon.

Holger wanted him for Germany, its too bad he's unavailable (especially as the Div.1 match is May 26th, just a few days before Germany).

It's good to know Pesch is still in Holger's plans... that goal was a nice reminder of the kind of things he can still bring to the team.

I taped the game with the hope that Pesch would play. However, I didn't expect him to score one of the most important goals of his club career.

If only Rauter was doing the PBP..... Peeesschiiisoooliiidooo! :D

Another good thing about Pesch's goal is that he'll now probably be retained by SUFC if they get promoted to the Prem. I was thinking before this game that they'd probably let him go but after that goal I don't see how they could.

I don't understand. The game in Wales is on a Monday. The Canada/Germany match is on the following Saturday.Pesch could be in Wolfsburg by Wednesday in time to join his team mates for training. It would give him enough time to get used to the team.

Are you saying that Pesch would have been included if Sheffield United had lost?

Nope. My understanding with Pesch & Brennan is that they had already made their holiday plans & the Germany match conflicts with that - and lets keep in mind these player's summer holiday time is being cut short due to the Gold Cup (the training camp will be starting in early July), to which they will both likely be called to.

I hope you are right, but I wouldn't be so sure of that. the reason that I was hoping that Notts forest would win and advance was because I felt that Brennan, being a consistant starter who plays 90 mins, would have a much greater chance of moving up with the team. Meanwhile Pesch, who already got dropped by Fulham when they moved up, is not a starter. If SU moves up and decided to go on a shopping spree in the summer, who is more vulnerable? a starter or a sub. its the players who are lower on the depth charts who are vulnerable I would think.

I suppose it depends on how much Sheffied United is willing to spend (if they beat Wolves).

Yah, well guess what nutter set his VCR for FSWC (out of habit) and not Sportnet and came home to Birmingham-West Ham.

By the way anyone have an idea as to the TV revenue's difference from EPL to Nationwide 1? Somehow 5 millions sticks in the mind but can't vouch for how accurate that is or remember if it's the revenue differance or out and out total revenue. Just curious.

I was cheering for Brennan and Forest, but as soon as Pesch scored, it warmed my heart. When he's on he's one of the best we've ever had. He's got the maturity he's lacked in his youth and I think he still has a role to play. I thought he looked quite good in Japan and was very dangerous against Costa Rica in Gold Cup 2000. Did anyone (Fury? Red Hat?) see him play against Honduras in Winnipeg in May of 2000? It sounded like he was quite strong.

I know that's all in the past, but we don't have too much in the present to focus on. I don't know what he'll have left for 06, but he's had a strong year and surely should be in the team for this year's Gold Cup. I hope they beat Wolves and he goes up with Utd. He surely deserves it.

cheers,

Except that not every starter is cut out to be a role player. It takes a certain something to come on and make things happen right off the bat. In Pesch's case he brings pace, energy and a proven ability to score off the bench. Very effective against tired defenders. It would not surprise me at all if Pesch stikes around as a sub for SU and that one of the Striker's ahead of him makes way for the upgrade.

Dead on. Pesch. has a lot going his way though I'm still troubled by his chances of going up if Sheff. U. pull it off against Wolves (dought it but thursday certainly opened the question a little more).

He's accepted his subs role with grace and displayed a team first attitude which has made him a Warnock favorite and popular with the other lads. Hard to find a happy forward sub. Just the nature of the beast as it were. Seems as though Sheff. U. have that role covered allready and there's no need to spend precious money untell it's shown without dought that this role is a weakest link that's immediately hurting the club.

Cross your fingers.

Yep I saw Pesch in Winnipeg vs. Honduras and could have scored about
3 goals. Still has some future as a super-sub.
